(SIOUX CITY)–Sioux City Police are searching for two men who are suspects in an armed robbery.
Authorities say the two men walked into the Kum and Go convenience store at 2626 Court Street just after ten last night. One of the men displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.
The men took cash from the convenience store cash register and left on foot. They got into a light blue older model Chrysler or Dodge Caravan and left .
Police say they men are described as African American or Native American males in their 20’s between 5’6″ and 5’8″ to all

(LE MARS)–A Brunsville man who had entertained with his accordion is remembered today with the 8th annual Art Pahl Accordion Fest.
The event at the Plymouth County Historical Museum begins at two this afternoon with more than a dozen accordion player scheduled to provide music.
Brunsville area residents, church and community groups are partnering with the museum on the annual event.
(LE MARS)–Firefighters from three departments fought a grass fire in the Merrill area Saturday afternoon.
According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office fire log, the Merrill Fire Department was called to 200th Street and Iris Avenue and had water and grass rig equipment from Hinton and Akron.
The Hinton Department requested help from Sioux City’s Fire Department due to a fire near Sioux City at 22807 C-80. That call was reported while Merrill was receiving assistance from Hinton Firefighters.

The Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club will host the District 8 annual meeting of the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa Saturday, April 24th at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ. The theme for the district meeting is “The Loess Hills–a Gift of Nature.”
There are five garden clubs in the district. Speakers will include Plymouth County Conservation Naturalist Victoria DeVos who will talk about plants and animals of the Iowa Loess Hills. There will be presentations about making collages and tree care from Floyd Valley Federated Garden club members.
The garden club has a Facebook site and is offering a $500 horticulture scholarship. The deadline to apply is May first. Information about the scholarship is available from Frank Summerside or Les Hemmingson of Le Mars or Lorie Luense of Merrill.
LITTLE SIOUX, Iowa (AP) More improvements have been made at a western Iowa Boy Scout camp destroyed nearly two years ago by a deadly tornado.
The Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council will hold an April 24 ceremony to celebrate completion of a storm shelter, RV park and other features at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch.
The camp was destroyed June 11, 2008, when the storm hit. Four Boy Scouts died, including three from Omaha, Neb. Nearly 50 others were injured.
Volunteers have rebuilt the camp, which was rededicated last year. The new buildings are able to withstand winds up to 250 mph.
Following the ceremony, the council will hold a luncheon for the EMS workers who aided Scouts after the tornado and will introduce the new ranger, Greg “Doc” Schaefer.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) State officials say sex offenders will remain at the Fort Des Moines correctional facility on the city’s south side indefinitely after funding for a new facility was rescinded.
Lawmakers retracted $18 million that had been allocated to build a new facility elsewhere but have appropriated $1 million to build a wall to separate the facility from the Blank Park Zoo.
The Fort Des Moines facility houses 217 offenders, including about 20 sex offenders.
Iowa Corrections Director John Baldwin said Friday that he was “exceptionally disappointed” that lawmakers retracted the money for a new 170-bed community corrections facility.
Jo Corigliano is president of the South Side Revitalization Partnership. She says she thinks it’s “horrible” that sex offenders will remain at Fort Des Moines.
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) Authorities have found what appear to be human remains at a rural Scott County property where a man was reported missing in 2009.
Officers from the Scott County sheriff’s office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation searched the property Friday and found what appeared to be human remains in a pile of debris. Investigators will continue recovering the remains and plan an autopsy.
It’s unclear whether the remains are those of David Lee Spriet Jr., who had lived at the property. The sheriff’s office says the 51-year-old man was last seen in February 2009 and was reported missing last June.
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) Police in Waterloo say four people were injured there in an apparent stabbing incident.
Authorities say the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Friday.
There had been no arrests by Friday evening, and the investigation was ongoing.
Upon arrival, officers located one victim, 25-year-old Andre Maurice Hamilton, still at the scene. Hamilton had a six-inch laceration across the right side of this back and a two-inch cut on his chest. He was transported to Allen Hospital by ambulance.
A short time later, three other victims arrived at Covenant Hospital by private vehicle. They were identified as 31-year-old Christopher Alexand Thompson, 18-year-old Antwone Charles Rucker, and 22-year-old Antonio Clinton Rucker.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Iowa City police say a local man was charged with drunken driving after hitting two bicyclists.
Twenty-two-year-old Colton McMaster was arrested and charged with second-offense drunken driving Friday night.
Police say his vehicle was stopped at an intersection and waiting to turn. He allegedly struck the bicyclists as they tried to cross the intersection after the light changed.
Police say 35-year-old Lynn Harrison and 20-year-old Nico Beckerman were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) A West Burlington tavern owner says he won’t appeal an Iowa District Court ruling upholding the constitutionality of the state’s Smokefree Air Act, which bans smoking in most public places.
Darwin Bunger, an attorney for tavern owner Larry Duncan, said Friday that Duncan still believes the smoking ban is unconstitutional, but there was no guarantee that he would have won an appeal. Losing an appeal would have resulted in a two-year liquor license revocation.
Bunger said that in a settlement with the state, Duncan will accept a 60-day license suspension and will agree to comply with the smoking ban in the future. The suspension will be cut to 50 days because Duncan’s tavern, which is known as Otis Campbell’s Bar and Grill, was already shut down for 10 days last year.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) Former Cedar Rapids gymnast and businessman George Nissen, who built the world’s first modern trampoline, has died at age 96.
International Gymnastics Magazine reports that Nissen died Wednesday in San Diego, Calif., from complications of pneumonia.
The Blairstown, Iowa, native came up with the trampoline idea while training as a gymnast at the University of Iowa, basing it on the safety nets used by circus performers. He and his coach, Larry Griswold, built their prototype in Nissen’s mother’s garage during the late 1930s. In 1941, their Griswold-Nissen Trampoline Tumbling Co. began commercial manufacture in Cedar Rapids.
In 2000, Nissen was a special guest at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia the first to include trampoline as an official sport.
Nissen is survived by his wife, Annie, and two daughters.
