The city of Le Mars and Recycletronics of Sioux City are offering the Spring Cleaning Electronic Recycling event. Hours are today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) from nine in the morning until three in the afternoon.
Cell phones, telephones, computer equipment, televisions, microwaves, stereos, toasters, copiers, printers, V-C-Rs, alarm clocks, remote controls, MP3 players, disk drives, can openers, camcorders, floppy drives, speakers, cameras, modems, mice, C-D players, fax machines, game systems and more will be accepted.
Individuals or companies may bring these items to the City Hall drop off located at the parking lot on the east side of City Hall.
Spring Cleanup Days for Le Mars residents at the rural Le Mars landfill continue today and tomorrow and also June 18th.

Weekend movie theater opening planned
(LE MARS) Pirates of The Caribbean 4 in 3D, Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D, and the new X-Men movie…Even though you won’t see them on the marquee yet, Eric Hilsabeck- new owner of the Royal Theater, says all three of these movies will be showing in downtown Le Mars Saturday.

Crews have been working like crazy over the last few days, windows are up and seats are coming in. Hilsabeck says the by the first show full concessions will be available including popcorn, soda and candy.
Beginning Saturday, matinees will all start around the 1, 3 and 5 o’clock hours everyday, and continue all summer long. Evening shows are at 7 and 9 p.m.
Eric anticipates that all the final touches will be done in the next 3 weeks, with a grand opening celebration planned for the end of June. (News report by Angela Drake of KLEM News)

Hillview Recreation area campgrounds may be home to some Siouxlanders who evacuate
(HINTON)–Some Siouxland residents who are being evacuated due to potential flooding will be able to camp at a Plymouth County Conservation Board facility near Hinton.
Conservation Board Director Dennis Sohl says extended stay camping privileges are being authorized for anyone evacuated from flood areas such as the Dakota Dunes.
When campers register for camping at Hillview Recreation Area, west of Hinton, their address will be used to determine their eligibility to camp.
Sohl says this is one way that the stress of relocation can be eased for Siouxland residents since the Hillview campgrounds are conveniently located for a commute to Sioux City for work.
SUV, motorcycle collided at intersection
(LE MARS)–One person was taken to Floyd Valley Hospital after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Le Mars.
The accident was at an uncontrolled intersection, Eighth Avenue and Fourth Street Southwest.
According to the police report, the accident involved a sport utility vehicle being driven south on Eighth Avenue Southwest by 50-year-old Katherine Prouty of Le Mars and a westbound motorcycle being driven on Fourth Street Southwest by 60-year-old Arlen Krause of Le Mars.
Police report both drivers saw each other and thought the other driver was going to stop.
Krause was taken to Floyd Valley Hospital by Le Mars Ambulance for injuries that police reported were NOT incapacitating.

More hints of likely Bachmann run for president
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Rep. Michele Bachmann plans to participate in a presidential debate in New Hampshire this month, a move that further signals the Minnesota Republican expects run for the 2012 presidential nomination.
Bachmann will be on stage for the June 13 debate in Manchester, N.H. That’s according to Bachmann aide Andy Parrish.
The congresswoman born in Waterloo, Iowa says she will announce her plans for 2012 this month.
Iowa Republican lawmakers make new budget proposal
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Republican lawmakers are offering a two-year state budget they say makes concessions to Democrats on education funding and preschool programs.
House Speaker Kraig Paulsen announced at a Thursday news conference that Republicans are willing to go along with a 2 percent increase in basic education funding supported by Democrats, but only in the second year of the spending plan. He says they’ve also agreed to continue preschool programs as they currently exist.
Paulsen says the spending plan sticks with a Republican pledge to spend no more than $5.9 billion in the coming fiscal year.
Democrats note the state will start the fiscal year on July 1 with roughly $1 billion in reserves and want to increase school spending.
Insurance companies to pay $50K penalty to Iowa
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) Allied Property and Casualty Insurance and six affiliated companies have agreed to pay a $50,000 penalty to the state of Iowa for overcharging on more than 1,700 Iowa auto insurance policies.
The Gazette says Thursday that coding errors caused the companies to overcharge on policies with an “accident forgiveness” feature. The problems surfaced in 2009 when the Iowa Insurance Division investigated a complaint from a policyholder.
When Allied and other companies in the Nationwide group investigated, they found the problem was an error in manually coding a “chargeable accident” that should have been under the threshold to trigger a rate increase.
Early this year, refunds totaling nearly $383,000 were made to 1,721 policyholders.
Clinton woman sent to prison for deadly accident
CLINTON, Iowa (AP) A Clinton woman has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for a car accident that killed her friend.
The Clinton Herald says Thursday that 31-year-old Brandi Mangler was sentenced for vehicular homicide in the 2007 crash that killed her passenger, Martha McClurg. Mangler was also sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of operating while intoxicated third offense. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Mangler pleaded guilty in April. She was accused of driving drunk when she rolled through a stop sign and collided with another car. Her passenger died shortly after the crash.
Des Moines man sentenced for killing wife
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) A Des Moines man convicted of killing his wife has been sentenced to the mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
A Polk County jury last month found 27-year-old Donte Gilmore guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, Randi, on April 5, 2010. The Des Moines Register says a judge on Thursday sentenced Donte Gilmore to life in prison.
Gilmore shot his wife repeatedly during a domestic dispute while she was trying to get away from him. Her body was found at the bottom of the basement stairs in their home. The couple’s three young daughters were in the house when the shots were fired.
Sentencing on arson charges set for Lake Mills man
LAKE MILLS, Iowa (AP) A Lake Mills man who pleaded guilty to setting his house and minivan on fire will be sentenced June 21 in Winnebago County.
The Globe Gazette is reporting Thursday that 46-year-old Larry Smit was to go to trial on June 8 on two counts of second-degree arson but he pleaded guilty instead.
The fire was reported April 7. Smit allegedly refused to let firefighters onto his property to fight the blaze and he still faces charges of interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Neighbors alert Cedar Rapids family to fire
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) Cedar Rapids fire officials say a pickup truck that caught fire, destroying a garage and damaging a house, was subject to an open recall issued in 2005.
Fire department spokesman Greg Buelow says Wednesday night’s fire started in the engine compartment on the driver’s side of the 1999 Ford F-150, specifically in the area of the speed control system.
Neighbors awakened the family of five, and everyone got safely out of the house.
The massive recall by the Ford Motor Company included F-150 trucks built from 1994 to 2002. Buelow says the recall was to correct an issue that potentially could cause the cruise control deactivation switch to overheat and ignite a fire under the hood.
Council Bluffs man run over by van in hit-and-run
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) A Council Bluffs man is hospitalized after he was struck by a van and run over while trying to cross the street.
Police say 51-year-old Robert Whitmore stepped into the street about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday and was hit by a dark-colored SUV. Visibility at the time was limited because of heavy rain.
Whitmore suffered a broken back and broken ribs. He was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
