MONDAY RESULTS – June 6

(LE MARS) — Le Mars improved to 6-and-4 for the season and 2-and-1 in the Lakes Conference with a 12-0, three-inning victory over Storm Lake in Lakes Conference softball at the Bulldog Complex.  Jordan Heidebrink tossed a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts.  Heidebrink also led the hitting attack for the Lady Bulldogs with two hits, including a double.  Mary Kate Eckstaine also collected two hits.

 

(SERGEANT BLUFF) — State-rated Sergeant Bluff-Luton clipped Gehlen Catholic 4-0 Monday night in a non-conference softball match-up in Sergeant Bluff.  Gehlen was limited to just three hits with Steph Rohe, Lisa Gunter and Brittaney Krienert getting a hit each.  Amber Timmins allowed six hits in the pitching circle for Gehlen with three walks and two strikeouts.  The Lady Jays fall to 5-and-6 for the season.

Le Mars 10 Storm Lake 0, 6 innings

 

(LE MARS) — Le Mars scored seven runs in the sixth inning Monday night to break-up a 3-0 pitcher’s duel and the Bulldogs beat Storm Lake 10-0 in Lakes Conference baseball action at the Bulldog Complex.  The Bulldogs combined five hits and three walks into the big sixth inning that ended the game on the ten-run rule.  Kendall Candor drove in two runs with a pair of hits while Jeremy Bohlke, and Mike Ahlers had two hits and a RBI each.  Judd Herzberg threw a complete game three-hitter with three walks and four strikeouts and also had a RBI-double at the plate.  Le Mars improves to 3-and-3 for the season and 3-and-0 in the Lakes Conference.

TUESDAY RESULTS – June 7

(LE MARS) — Le Mars scored three runs in the fifth inning Tuesday night to secure a 6-3 non-conference softball win over Sheldon at the Bulldogs Complex.  Erin Kommes threw a six-hitter with seven strikeouts to get the pitching win.  Emily Ellefson, Jordan Heidebrink and Madison Heidebrink had two hits each for the Lady Bulldogs.  Ellefson and Jordan Heidebrink drove in two runs each.  Ellefsen had a pair of doubles.  The win improves Le Mars to 7-and-4 for the season.

(HARTLEY) — Gehlen collected eleven hits to back Amber Timmins’ pitching and the Lady Jays beat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 12-6 Tuesday night in a make-up War Eagle Conference softball clash at Hartley.  Timmins scattered eight hits, walked five and struck out ten.  She also had a pair of hits.  Steph Rohe also had two hits for the Lady Jays.  Rohe, Abby Freking and Alison Schnepf each had a triple.  Freking had two RBI’s.  Gehlen improves to 6-and-6 for the season and 3-and-2 in the W-E-C.

(LE MARS) — Judd Herzberg belted the Bulldogs’ first home run of the season and added a single and double to lead Le Mars to a 12-2, five inning victory over Okoboji in a non-conference baseball match-up at the Bulldog Complex Tuesday night.  Austin Homan and Hunter Rowe divided the pitching chores with Homan getting the victory with three shutout innings.  Le Mars improves to 4-and-3 with the win.

(HARTLEY) — Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn took advantage of two errors and two timely hits to score four unearned runs in the sixth inning, wiping out a 6-3 deficit for a 7-6 win over Gehlen Catholic in War Eagle Conference baseball at Hartley Tuesday night.  Mitch Christoffel took the loss despite pitching effectively until the sixth inning defensive collapse.  Christoffel surrendered eleven hits and struck out seven.  Only two of the seven runs were earned.  Angel Changolla and Mitchell Flack led the Jays’ offense with two hits each.  Flack had a pair of doubles and two RBI’s.  Gehlen falls to 2-and-6 for the season and 1-and-4 in the War Eagle Conference.

Gehlen Catholic 10 West Sioux 0, six innings

 

(EMMETSBURG) — Emmetsburg remained atop the Lakes Conference standings with a 1-0 win over Le Mars Wednesday night.  It was a classic pitcher’s duel with junior Faith Schmidt tossing a three-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and Le Mars Jordan Heidebrink throwing a six-hitter with one unearned run deciding the outcome.  After a two-out error extended the fourth inning, Jayme Penrod doubled into the gap in left-center to plate the lone run of the game.  Ashley Phelan had two of the Lady Bulldogs three hits off Schmidt.  Le Mars falls to 2-and-2 in the league and 7-and-5 for the season.

(IRETON) — Gehlen rode Amber Timmins’ one-hit shutout to a 10-0 War Eagle Conference softball win over West Sioux in Ireton Wednesday night.  Timmins walked two and struck out eight.  Shannon Smith led the offensive attack with three hits while Steph Rohe had two hits, including a triple and two RBI’s.  Alison Schnepf had a three-run triple.  Gehlen is now 7-and-6 for the season and 4-and-2 in the W-E-C.

Gehlen Catholic 20 West Sioux 1, five innings

 

(EMMETSBURG) — Le Mars remained the lone unbeaten in the Lakes Conference baseball race, improving to 4-and-0 in the league and 5-and-3 for the season, with a 14-1 win at Emmetsburg Wednesday night.  The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the seventh inning to extend a 6-1 lead.  Zach Reuter threw a six-hitter with a career-best eleven strikeouts.  Mike Ahlers, Judd Herzberg, Hunter Rowe and Jeremy Bohlke had two hits each to lead a 14-hit attack.  Kendall Candor and Zach Reuter had two-run hits in the seventh and Hunter Rowe drove in two runs with a single in the both the sixth and seventh innings.

(HAWARDEN) — The Gehlen baseball team unleashed a ten-hit attack and got a solid pitching performance from freshman Blake Wiltgen to turn back West Sioux 20-1 in five innings Wednesday night in a War Eagle Conference match-up in Hawarden.  Wiltgen allowed two hits and walked one while striking out nine.  Wiltgen also led the offense with three hits and three RBI’s.  Dylan Kneip had two hits and three RBI’s.  Gehlen improves to 3-and-6 for the season and 2-and-4 in the War Eagle Conference.

(LE MARS) — Gehlen split their two games on the opening day of the Lady Bulldog Classic at the Riverview Complex.  In the first game of the day, Gehlen erupted for seven runs in the first inning and went onto beat Storm Lake 12-2 in six innings.  The Lady Jays rapped out a season-best 16 hits with Alison Schnepf and Abby Freking collecting three hits each.  Schnepf drove in three runs and Freking plated two runs.  Shannon Smith had two hits and two RBI’s.  Amber Timmins scattered six hits and struck out seven to get the pitching win.

State-rated Sergeant Bluff-Luton turned back Gehlen 7-2 in the final game of the day as Betsy Thomas limited Gehlen to five hits and struck out seven for SB-L.  Thomas also had three hits and a RBI at the plate for the Warriors.  Alison Schnepf and Amber Timmins divided the pitching chores for Gehlen.  Schnepf took the loss.  Gehlen is now 8-and-7 for the season.

 

(LE MARS) — Le Mars may have gone 0-and-2 on day-one of the Lady Bulldog Classic but the Lady Bulldogs played two perenial powerhouse programs right down to the wire.  Sergeant Bluff-Luton won a pitchers duel 2-0 in a mid-afternoon game at the Bulldog Complex as Miles Ludwigs threw a three-hit shutout to out duel Le Mars’ Erin Kommes.  Betsy Thomas and Ludwigs had back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth inning to break up a scoreless tie.

Defending 1A State Champion Akron-Westfield rallied for a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit in a 3-1 victory over Le Mars.  Kayla Tindall tied the game in the fifth with a two-out RBI single.  All-State catcher Sarah Parkinson broke the tie in the sixth with a sacrifice RBI bunt and winning pitcher Brandi Davis added a RBI double later in the inning.   Le Mars is now 7-and-7 for the season.

Bishop Heelan at Le Mars – POSTPONED

 

(LE MARS) — Gehlen rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday night to erase a 2-0 deficit and the Jays beat Hinton 3-2 in War Eagle Conference baseball action at the Riverview Complex.  Mitch Christoffel got the rally started with a solo homer down the left field line.  Austin Herbst tied the game with a two-out single to left after an error kept the inning alive.  Derek Bretey raced home from third base with the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.  Michael Whitehead, who picked up the win in relief, then set the Blackhawks down in order in the seventh inning.  Devin Groenhagen worked the first five inning for the Jays before Whitehead took over in the sixth and retired six of the seven batters he faced.  Justin Held was the tough-luck loser for Hinton, shutting Gehlen out on three hits for five innings before the sixth inning turn around.  Nolan Field and Held drove in the Blackhawks’ runs with base hits.  Gehlen improves to 4-and-6 for the season and 3-and-4 in the War Eagle Conference.  Hinton falls to 1-and-10 for the year and 1-and-7 in the W-E-C.

(LE MARS) — Gehlen improved to 10-and-7 for the season with a pair of wins Saturday in the Le Mars Lady Bulldog Classic at the Riverview Complex.  Gehlen beat Sioux City West 7-2 behind Alison Schnepf’s four-hitter.  Schnepf walked three and struck out three in her complete-game effort in the pitching circle.  Shannon Smith, Steph Rohe and Amber Timmins led the hitting attack with two hits each.  Rohe drove in a pair of runs.

In the second game of the day, the Lady Jays turned back Cherokee 11-8.  Amber Timmins got the pitching win with an eight-hit, five strike out performance.  She also had two hits and three RBI’s at the plate.  Abby Freking, Shannon Smith and Bailey Wiltgen also had two hits each for Gehlen.  The Lady Jays went 3-and-1 over the two days of the Classic.

(LE MARS) — Le Mars won both games Saturday in their own Lady Bulldog Classic to finish 2-and-2 over the two days of play with three of the four games against rated opponents.  Le Mars, after dropping a pair of close decisions to rated foes on Friday, finally scored a win over a state-rated opponent in their final game of the day.  Erica Westhoff snapped a 2-all tie with a RBI single in the ninth inning to lift Le Mars to a 3-2 win over number-three (1A) Hinton.  RBI hits by Madison Heidebrink and Erin Kommes gave the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning but Hinton tied it on Shawnee Miller’s hit in the sixth.  Erin Kommes worked all nine innings for the pitching win.

Earlier in the day Saturday, Le Mars belted Sioux City West 12-1 as Molly Renken tossed a three-hitter with twelve strike outs.  Ashley Phelan and Erin Kommes had three hits each with both collecting a double.  Le Mars improved to 9-and-7 for the season.
