Sioux City Police Investigate Shooting
(Sioux City) — Two people are dead and one other injured after a shooting incident on Sioux City’s westside. Police Chief Doug Young says officers were called to 507 West 27th Street late Thursday evening.

Several other people including two children were at the home at the time of the shooting, which the chief says started with an argument.

The suspect, who was also shot in the leg, fled the scene, but was quickly located and arrested at his girlfriend’s home. 26 year old Juan Antonio Nino-Estrada of Sioux City is charged with two counts of 1st degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He is being held in the Woodbury County jail after being treated for his wound. The names of the victims have not been released pending family notification. The investigation is continuing.
Escaped Inmate Captured
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – A 43-year-old inmate has been captured following his escape from a
work release facility in Sioux City.
Fred Scaletta of the state Department of Corrections says David Kreider was apprehended
Friday in Sioux City. He is at the Woodbury County Jail.
Officials at the Sioux City Residential Treatment Facility say Kreider didn’t return as scheduled from his overnight shift job on Thursday morning. He’s serving a 20-year sentence for willful injury and other crimes. He was convicted of stabbing a man in October 2004.
In July last year, Kreider left the center without permission. He was found two days later by U.S. marshals and subsequently convicted of voluntary absence.
Scaletta says Kreider was given another opportunity for work release because officials perceived that his behavior had improved.
Primebank Donates To Le Mars Elementary Schools
(Le Mars) –Primebank President and CEO Matt Ahlers, Customer Service Representative, Kelli Langel and Senior Vice President, Kim Clarey recently presented checks to elementary school principals Lorie Nussbaum, Floyd Athay and Scott Parry. The checks represented funds raised by Primebank and staff during Homecoming week for both schools. Primebank matched the money raised by the staff.
Ahlers says, “Primebank and staff are happy to help the elementary schools provide
classrooms with some of the items that enhance learning opportunities.” “With budget
constraints what they are, often times some of the tools that are considered to be beyond
necessary are left out. It is our hope that the money we are able to provide will allow
students in Le Mars to receive an even better educational experience,” Ahlers concluded.
In total, Primebank and staff donated over $600 to the four elementary schools in Le Mars;
Gehlen Catholic, Franklin, Clark and Kluckhohn. 2013 was the second year that Primebank and
staff have provided additional funding for the elementary schools in
Le Mars.

(Le Mars) — Floyd Valley Hospital will offer a professional educational session entitled “Kidney Disease and Treatment Options” on Tuesday, November 19. The $10 course fee includes continuing education credit, light refreshments and course materials. People with kidney disease can live long and productive lives. Treatment of kidney disease can delay disease progression and improve outcomes. Lt. Governor Reynolds Leaves For China
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will leave for China this weekend to speak at a forum in Shanghai.
The governor’s office says in a news release that Reynolds will depart Sunday and then be the featured speaker Tuesday at the World Forum for Direct Investment’s opening panel.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority also has scheduled other business meetings for Reynolds while she’s in China.
Reynolds says in a statement that the conference and other meetings would continue an effort to establish ties between Iowa and China.
Reynolds will return to Iowa on Wednesday.
The roughly $8,500 cost of the trip will be covered by the Iowa Economic Development Foundation.
Volunteers Looking At Condition Of Past Governors Graves
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Volunteers are cataloging the conditions of grave sites and markers belonging to former Iowa governors, lieutenant governors and federal cabinet officials.
The volunteers are part of the State Association for the Preservation of Iowa Cemeteries. They’re on assignment from Gov. Terry Branstad, who wants the group to document the sites and markers by photographing them and assessing their conditions.
State documents that locate some governor grave sites are helping volunteers, but more research will be needed to track all the graves belonging to lieutenant governors.
Group members hope their work may lead to some renovations for the aging symbols. Branstad indicated in a letter to the group that the project will indeed help determine if some work needs to be done on the sites.
