10,000 Eggs Ready To Be Collected For Easter Egg Hunt

(Le Mars) — The Lemars Area Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held tomorrow at 11am at Clevland Park. The event will feature over 10 thousand eggs to be collected according to John McGregor owner of the education station who is sponsoring the event along with Prime Bank.

The event is open to all children currently in first grade and younger. Excepectations are for a large turn out.

Candy and coupons to local buisnesses will be the prizes located inside the plastic easter eggs. The Lemars Fire Department will get the event underway by blowing their sirens. The event is also sponsored by PrimeBank, the LeMars Kiwanis Club and the Bodeans Baking Group.

 

Woodbury County Parks Ready To Open

 
(Sioux City)– The Woodbury County Conservation Board will host a Camping Kickoff Weekend May 2 through the 4. Southwood Conservation Area near Smithland, Little Sioux Park near Correctionville, Snyder Bend Park and Browns Lake Park both near Salix will all tkae part in the event. Campers will be requiered to register and pay the appropriate fees for each night of camping. Registered camping units for the Kickoff Weekend will recive a coupon for a free night of camping for later on in the 2014 season. Cabins at Little Sioux Park and Snyder Bend Park are not included in the event. Units are availible on a first come first serve basis. These facilities and Fowler Forest Preserve near Smithland along with restrooms and shelters all open on May 1 for the season.

 

Two People From Sheldon Accused Of Arson

SHELDON, Iowa (AP) – A northwest Iowa bar and bowling alley owner and one of her employees have been accused of setting a fire to collect insurance money.
     Authorities say 36-year-old Kristina Manasil owned the Budd-Z’s Sports Bar and Grill and its bowling alley in Sheldon. The building housing them was declared a total loss after the blaze on May 15 last year. Manasil and 36-year-old Adam Sickles were arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts each of felony arson.
     O’Brien County Jail records say both have bonded out. Home phone listings for them couldn’t be found. Online court records don’t list the names of their attorneys.

 

Sioux City Man Charged In Robberies

(Sioux City)– A Jackson, Nebraska man has been arrested on two counts of robbery and one count of false imprisonment. 22 year-old Vasean Markworth was identified as the suspect in a strong-arm robbery on March 30 in which he allegedly used threats of force to take money and belongings from two 15 year-olds. Then on April 16 Markworth allegedly attacked a 28 year-old female at around 230 am after she closed a local buissness she was cleaning. He demanded cash and her debit card. She was then forced into her car and drove to a bank on Hamilton Bvld. where she ran from the car to a local buisiness for help. Officers located Markworth around 6 am on April 17 and took him in for questioning. Victims from both robberies identified Markworth who is being held at the Woodbury County Jail.

 

Iowa Unemployment Increases

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa’s unemployment rate climbed to 4.5 percent in March as more people entered the labor force.
     Iowa Workforce Development announced Friday the rate was up from 4.4 percent in February. It compared to a 4.8 percent unemployment rate in March 2013.
     Despite the higher rate, agency director Teresa Wahlert says total employment reached a record high of 1.6 million people.
     The number of unemployed people also increased, from 74,200 in February to 76,000 in March. Just over 7,000 additional people joined the labor force.
     Iowa’s rate compares to a national unemployment rate of 6.7 percent.
