Relay For Life Of Plymouth County Will Be Held Today

(Le Mars) – Relay For Life of Plymouth County will be held today from 5-11pm at the Le Mars Community High School Stadium. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest and most impact fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. 14 teams and 27 participants have raised $7,579.

Le Mars Road Set To Close On Monday For Maintenance 

(Le Mars) – On Monday (July 25th) Road C-16 From Key ave to Lake Ave will be closed to perforn track maintenance. The road will stay closed until Wednesday at 4:00 pm. For more information call Plymouth County Secondary Road Department at 712-546-4559

 

TIMOTHY SCHROEDER FOUND GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

(Sioux City) — A SIOUX CITY MAN HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS IN THE JANUARY, 2015 SHOOTING DEATH OF A SLOAN, IOWA MAN.

30 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY SCHROEDER WAS FOUND GUILTY OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND TWO OTHER COUNTS IN THE DEATH OF 29 YEAR OLD DUSTIN WILDER AT WILDER’S HOME IN SLOAN.

A WOODBURY COUNTY JURY GOT THE CASE AROUND NOON FOLLOWING CLOSING STATEMENTS IN THE TRIAL FRIDAY MORNING.

THEY DELIBERATED FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR IN REACHING THE GUILTY VERDICTS ON THE MURDER CHARGE, PLUS GOING ARMED WITH INTENT AND FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM.

DAVID WILDER ALSO THANKED THE VICTIM’S GRIEF COUNSELORS WHO HELPED HIS FAMILY IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE SHOOTING.

HE ALSO SPOKE ABOUT THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEMS THAT AFFECT MANY AREA FAMILIES:

JUDGE JEFFREY NEARY REVOKED SCHROEDER’S BOND AND WILL SET A SENTENCING DATE FOR HIM IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

 

Homeowners Not Required To Install Sidewalks 

(Le Mars) — At the last Le Mars City Council meeting held on Tuesday, there was quite a bit of discussion that focused on proposed sidewalks located on the north side of 12th Street Southeast extending from Central Avenue going east to 7th Avenue. City Administrator Scott Langel says the city council, after much discussion, decided that residents and home owners in that area would not need to install sidewalks.

As for construction projects around town, Langel says Knife River contractors are back in town to finish the asphalt project. Langel says an emergency prompted the company to temporarily halt their work.

 

Excessive Heat Wave Causing Numerous Problems 

(Orange City) — Excessive heat waves, such as the one that has hit northwest Iowa for the past few days causes numerous problems for various entities. Utility companies is just one sector that is troubled by heat waves. When the temperatures rise, so do the usage of power, creating stress on the load factors and grid systems. Lyle Korver serves as the chief executive officer for the North West Rural Electric Cooperative that serves Sioux, O’Brien, Ida, and Plymouth counties.


Korver then went on to talk about the type of programs put in place to deal with these issues.
