Davenport Woman Misses Court Date On Truancy Child

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say a Davenport woman was arrested after she didn’t appear in court on a charge that she’d let her child miss too many days of school.
Court records say 33-year-old Falyne Klinkner posted $100 bail after her arrest Tuesday. Her attorney didn’t immediately return a call Thursday from The Associated Press.
Klinkner was charged in February with violating the law about compulsory education. Police say her 14-year-old child had 35 unexcused absences from school and 24 excused absences.
Court records show the warrant for Klinkner’s arrest was issued in June after she missed a hearing on the original charge. Klinkner is due back in court Sept. 30.

Video Shows Waterloo Police Officer Hitting Man In Custody

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) – An angry white officer repeatedly yanked on the dreadlocks of a handcuffed black man who was arrested after a dangerous high-speed chase in Iowa, then twice hit him on the back of the head.
Video obtained this week by The Associated Press shows Waterloo officer Adam Wittmayer briefly assaulting 24-year-old Montavis Keller and calling him names after the April 19 chase.
A state prosecutor concluded in June that no criminal charges were warranted against Wittmayer because jurors would understand why he was mad.
Keller is charged with nearly hitting Wittmayer with his car at the end of the chase after Wittmayer put down tire-puncturing sticks to disable it.
Waterloo Police Chief Daniel Trelka says Wittmayer was disciplined and that he doesn’t condone the officer’s behavior.

24 Year Old Charged With Accidental Shooting Death Of Father

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) – A 24-year-old Iowa man has been imprisoned on a weapons conviction in the accidental shooting death of his father.
Prosecutors say Dale White was given 47 months in prison at his sentencing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. White had pleaded guilty to being a drug user in possession of a firearm. He must serve three years of supervised release after he leaves custody.
Prosecutors say that on Jan. 2, White and his father, Karl White, were handling a .22-caliber rifle in their living room in Nashua when the rifle accidentally fired. The older man was fatally wounded.
