Car Catches On Fire Following Roll-over Accident

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department responded to a one vehicle
roll-over accident that caused the car to burst into flames. The accident
happened early Friday morning at about 6:43 a.m. on Highway 3 nearly six miles
west of Le Mars. Fortunately, the female driver was able to escape the burning
vehicle. Fire Chief Dave Schipper says the vehicle was a total loss due to the
accident and subsequent fire. The accident remains under investigation by the
Plymouth County Sheriff’s office.

 

Northwest Iowa Telephone Exchanges Sold

(Undated) — The sale of eleven Iowa telephone exchanges by the Consolidated Communications Holdings, Incorporated of Illinois is final. Consolidated officials announced on Thursday, that they have completed the sale of the Heartland Telecommunications Company of Iowa subsidiary to Mutual Telephone Company of Sioux Center, also known as Premier Communications; and Winnebago Cooperative Telecom Association of Winnebago. Premier acquired the Iowa exchanges of: Akron, Boyden, Doon, Hawarden, Hull, Ireton, Rock Rapids, Rock Valley and Sibley. Winnebago acquired the Iowa exchanges of Bancroft and Lakota. The sale was an all-cash transaction valued at approximately 20-point-nine million dollars.

 

Buena Vista College President To Retire

STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) – The longtime president of Buena Vista University in
Storm Lake will be leaving next year and moving to Florida.
Frederick Moore said in announcing his resignation Thursday that he’ll be
joining his wife so they can both be nearer to their son, who has been living in a
special care facility near Orlando for the past three years. Moore’s resignation
is effective June 30, 2017.
Moore has been Buena Vista’s president since 1995. In Florida he intends to
join AGB Search, which specializes in higher education executive searches.

 

Labor Day Weekend Traffic Could Be Conjested

(Des Moines) — The last holiday weekend of summer is just ahead and many thousands of Iowans will be on the road. Extra law officers are being called in to keep an eye out for speeders, drunks and other lawbreakers.
