Sheriff’s K-9 Unit Receives Grant From PetCo Foundation

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office has announced it has been
awarded a $1,320 grant from the PetCo Foundation to support its K-9 program. The
Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office is a nonprofit organization serving the residents
of Plymouth County. The Sheriff’s Office has had the services of a K-9 since the
late 1980’s and currently has two certified K-9’s on staff. All of the K-9’s past
and present have been certified by the United States Police Canine Association.
The grant was made possible through the PetCo Foundation’s annual Helping Heros
fundraising campaign, in partnership with Natural Balance Pet Foods. During the
campaign each October, customers are invited to donate in PetCo stores across the
country to support service and therapy animals and organizations. The PetCo
Foundation investment will help to supply our K-9 dogs with food in a manner which
they can continue to serve our community at a high level. According to Deputy
Jake Wingert, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office K-9 handler, “the grant will allow
the dogs to make a difference in the community by taking illegal drugs and guns
out of our community, finding lost persons and fleeing criminals, and serving as a
public relations tool. The PetCo Foundation’s grant is important to the Plymouth
County Sheriff’s Office K-9 program to help keep our dogs going strong”.

Floyd Valley To Hold Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony For New Surgical Center

(Le Mars) –– After nearly two years of construction, Floyd Valley Healthcare is
finishing the northside addition by hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday
during an After-five event. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is acknowledging the new
surgical center. Administrator Mike Donlin says all of the surgeons have been
invited to participate in the ceremony.

Since it is the new surgical unit that is being honored, it only makes sense that
the surgeons would use scalpels to cut the ribbon.

Donlin says the actual ribbon cutting will take place on the upstairs level in
front of the surgical center.

The health care administrator says people will also want to view the recently
completed mural located on the south side of the health care facility.

Donlin says the medical staff are in general agreement they enjoy working in the
new surgical center.

Boy Scout Troop Delivers Tie Blankets To Floyd Valley Healthcare

(Le Mars) — Members of the boy scout troop 188 have gone to efforts to help make
patients of Floyd Valley Healthcare comfortable during their stay in the hospital.
The troop has helped make 48 tie blankets for children and family members of
patients at Floyd Valley Healthcare. Although several scouts have helped with the
nice gesture, 14 year old Brady Poulson, the son of Todd and Janelle Poulson, has
committed to make the blankets as part of his Eagle Scout badge project. Poulson
and his fellow scouts made a total of 48 tie blankets on Sunday, September 11th,
Patriot Day, and National Day of Service and Remembrance. He then delivered the
blankets to Floyd Valley Healthcare on the following Thursday, September 15th.
Loretta Myers, Director of Patient Care accepted the blankets on behalf of Floyd
Valley Healthcare.  (KLEM originally had listed Scott Poulson as the father of Brady. We apologize for the error).

Branstad Questions Whether Hillary Clinton Will Support Iowa’s First In Nation Caucus

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Republican Gov. Terry Branstad says he doesn’t believe Hillary Clinton would support maintaining Iowa’s status as first-in-the-nation during the presidential primary season, basing his opinion on her narrow win in the state in February.
Branstad told reporters Monday that “Iowa has embarrassed” the Democratic presidential nominee, who beat Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by a narrow margin in their party’s caucus. Branstad also says polling data show Clinton is in a tight race with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over Iowa’s six electoral votes.
Branstad says he believes Trump would keep Iowa first, noting recent comments by the candidate. Trump previously questioned the results of the state’s Republican caucus after he placed second behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
Branstad’s son is Trump’s state director for Iowa.
Responding to Branstad’s comment, Clinton spokeswoman Kate Waters says the Democrat “has and will continue to support Iowa’s first in the nation status.”
