Supervisors To Meet Today

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors have a full agenda for today’s meeting to be held at the County Courthouse Boardroom. The supervisors are expected to approve the county library contracts during today’s meeting. They are also expected to name Julie Ludwigs as the clerk for Hancock Township. Cathy Van Mannen from the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence will appear before the county board to discuss Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Le Mars city Mayor Dick Kirchoff and City Administrator Scott Langel will appear before the county board of supervisors to discuss the Community Betterment Project II projects. The county supervisors will review and possibly approve the 2016 Homestead Credit applications and 2016 Disabled Veteran Homestead Tax Credit. County engineer Tom Rohe is scheduled to appear before the county board. Rohe will submit several permit requests, as well as the purchase of a snow plow. The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors will also hear a report from Neal Adler, Steve Warnstad, and Dr. Terry Murrell as they ask the supervisors to recognize the 50th anniversary of Western Iowa Tech Community College.

City Council Has Short Agenda For Today’s Meeting

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars City Council will convene today at noon at the Council chambers. The city council will hear a report from Jerry Reardon regarding the Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation. As for action items, the city council will acknowledge the Western Iowa Technical Community College’s 50th anniversary. The council will also discuss an assistance request from Wells Enterprises.

City Work Crews Close Streets For Repairs

(Le Mars) — City crews have closed the intersection at 1st Street Southeast and 1st Avenue Southeast by the northwest corner of the North Ice Cream Plant. The intersection is anticipated to remain closed for at least 12 days. Le Mars Public Works Department are making street repairs at the intersection.

 

Downtown Intersection Of Plymouth St. And Central Ave. To Close For Repairs

(Le Mars) — Le Mars city workers will will be closing the intersection at Plymouth St. (Hwy 3 ) and Central Ave. starting early Monday morning, Oct. 10th for repairs to the street, sidewalk corners and some water main. All traffic will be routed to 1st St. N. from Hwy 3 down to business 75. The intersection will be closed at all 4 corners so there will be no through traffic at that intersection. The city will post detour signs to reroute all traffic. The intersection is planned to be closed from Oct. 10th thru Oct. 31st, weather permitting.

 

Fire and Rescue Department Issues September Monthly Report

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department has issued its September monthly report. The local fire brigade responded to a total of 50 calls in September, of which there were 12 fire calls, nine rescues, and nine investigations and or accident clean-ups. The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department offered mutual aid four separate times, all of which were for Merrill. The fire and rescue department also had requests for services a total of 16 times.

Le Mars Optimist Club Hold “Just Say No To Drugs” Student Assembly

(Le Mars) — Le Mars’ 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from both Le Mars Community and Gehlen Catholic gathered yesterday for the annual Le Mars Optimist club’s “Just Say No to drugs and alcohol” assembly. The event was held at the Le Mars Community Middle School auditorium. The students were given a direct message from the director of the Youth Education Services juvenile detention center based in Cherokee. Sheryl McGrory informed the students that most, if not all, the students currently housed in the juvenile detention center are there, either directly or indirectly as a result of drugs.

The YES director shared a letter written by a juvenile currently being held in the center, which she believes got the students’ attention.

This year’s winning entry designed t-shirt features a combination lock with the slogan “lock out drugs and alcohol”. It was designed by Le Mars Community 7th grader, Syndey Minor.
