Iowa Economic Development Authority Board To Decide On Well’s Enterprises Request

(Des Moines) — The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board will decide today whether to grant Well’s Enterprises of Le Mars a state tax incentive amounting to $3 million dollars. Well’s Enterprises is planning to make an expansion to its South Ice Cream Plant amounting to $40 million dollars and would include two additional production lines, and it would add 81 more jobs. You may recall Well’s had received the support of the Le Mars City Council earlier in the month. Well’s Enterprises Communications Manager, Leslie Bartholomew explains the expansion plans.

Bartholomew says the community will see the new construction this coming spring.

 

Community Foundation Of Greater Plymouth County Distributes Grants

(Le Mars) — The Community Foundation of Greater Plymouth County earlier this week distributed checks to 19 entites amounting to over $96,000 dollars. Julie Madden of Akron serves as the chair for the Grant Review Committee and says the money is derived from revenue at the casinos. She says with the exception of Craig, Oyens, Struble, and Seney, each of the other Plymouth County communities received funding.

Madden says the common thread for the entities to receive the funding is that they must all be a non-profit organization.

On Monday evening of this week at the Blue Bunny Ice Cream parlor in Le Mars, the Community Foundation of Greater Plymouth County presented the grants. The city of Le Mars received a check amounting to $3,925 in order to make the front doors of city hall, handicapped accessible. Other entities in Le Mars to receive funding included the Le Mars Ambulance Service received $5,559 for Life Pak – 15 equipment upgrades. The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department were given $4,400 for a large diameter hose replacement to be used on fire hydrants. The outdoor pool will be able to have a lifeguard stand and a new diving board with the $4,360 allocated. The Le Mars Public Library received $2,000 to have additional computers for community access, and the Plymouth County Historical Museum received a total of $4,312 for a windmill restoration project near the log cabin complex. Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation Gets Closer To Financial Goal

(Le Mars) — Earlier this week the Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation had announced two donations amounting to $10,000 each from the Steve Ohm family and also from the Le Mars Hy Vee supermarket. Mike Donlin serves as the president of the Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation. He says the community is making great strides in achieving the over all goal of $3.5 million dollars.

Donlin says the Le Mars Area Betterment Foundation has submitted the first two allocations of funds that will be used for the Royal 3 cinema theater and the Municipal Park, Camp grounds, beach, and shelter house.

Donlin says in the near future, Le Mars residents will receive a brochure in their mailboxes, requesting people to consider contributing to the Community Betterment Foundation.

 

Central Avenue To Be Resurfaced

(Le Mars) — Motorists traveling on Central Avenue during the past couple of days may have noticed some rough spots. Scott Kneip, the city Public Works Department Superintendent says Barkley Asphalt company has been grinding some spots on Central Avenue between 6th Street and 12th Street. Kneip says the road will be rough in places, and he ask motorists to use caution since the work will continue through today, without closing Central Avenue. Kneip says Barkley Asphalt will soon begin placing a layer of asphalt on Central Avenue. The work on Central Avenue south is expected to be completed by late Friday afternoon.
