Plymouth County Supervisors To Hear From County Emergency Management Director

(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Board of Supervisors will convene today at the County Courthouse Board Room. The county supervisors will hear from Chris Minor on a request to approve Nash Additions. The county board will also hear a
report from County Emergency Management Director, Duane Walhof. It is expected the county supervisors will approve the LEPC Region 4 Hazmat contract with SIMPCO and Plymouth County. County Engineer Tom Rohe will present to the
supervisors an agreement with the Chicago, Central and Pacific Railroad safety improvements on Marble Avenue. Rohe will also present several permit requests from Southern Sioux Rural Water Association. He will also present for the supervisors consideration a permit request from West Iowa Telephone Company.

 

City Cancels Zoning and Adjustment Meeting

(Le Mars) — Le Mars city officials have cancelled the Board of Zoning Adjustment meeting that was originally scheduled for today, Tuesday, November 1st at 8:15 a.m. Last week action was tabled regarding the change of zoning areas, and
therefore the Zoning and Adjustment board do not have any items on the agenda.

 

City Council To Hear Request From Westmar College Alumni

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars City Council will consider a funding
request for the amount of $6,000 from the Westmar College Alumni Association and Friends of Westmar to erect a granite monument marker on the former grounds of Westmar College. Floyd Valley Healthcare is requesting the city to approve the
issuance of the Series 2016 Taxable Bonds to the U-S-D-A to complete the permanent financing for the hospital’s improvements. Floyd Valley officials indicate this is the last resolution for the U-S-D-A loan that closes in
November. The city and the hospital are receiving a low loan rate of 2.375 percent. The resolution requires Floyd Valley Healthcare to comply with the U-S-D-A loan documents and the repayment of the bonds. The Floyd Valley Healthcare Board of Trustees and administration staff recommend council
approval.

 

Gehlen Catholic To Perform “Fall Service Day”

(Le Mars) — Today is All Saints Day, and Gehlen Catholic students, faculty, and staff will follow the actions of saints by performing its “Fall Service Day”. Alissa Schipper, who serves as the campus ministry director says this year’s fall service day will be a bit different than from past years. Schipper says “Fall Service Day” is a way for Gehlen Catholic to give back to the community.

Schipper explains the fall Service day involves most of the Gehlen Catholic family.

Schipper says this year’s Service Day closely follows the chosen gospel mission theme for Gehlen.

The Gehlen Catholic staff person says with the recent canonized saints of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Pope John Paul II, people have recent memories of how those two people served others. She says Gehlen’s goal is to have its students constantly think about serving others, while following the saints’ examples.

 

Business Economy Rating Falls In October

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – A monthly survey of business leaders suggests the economy will continue slowing in nine Midwest and Plains states, in part because of manufacturing weakness. The report released Tuesday says the overall economic index for the region declined to 43.8 in October from September’s 45.5. . Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth in that factor. A score below that suggests decline.

 

Private Companies Handling Medicaid Requests To Get More Money From State

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa is increasing the amount of money it pays three private insurance companies to administer the state’s Medicaid program.
The non-partisan Legislative Services Agency says the Iowa Department of Human Services decided recently to pay more in rates distributed for each Medicaid patient. It’s unclear how the extra $33.2 million in payments will affect the state’s cost projections.
