Supervisors To Decide On Housing Authority Agreement

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors will meet this morning at the County Courthouse Boardroom. The supervisors is expected to take action on approving the Siouxland Regional Housing Authority and Plymouth County rental agreement. The supervisors will hear from surveyor, Wayne Schlotfeldt, as he seeks approval of the Paegler Addition located in Elgin Township. Attorney Bob Brock will also meet the county governing board to ask for an extension to file
a minor subdivision Homestead Tract also located in Elgin Township. County engineer Tom Rohe will offer a construction update. Rohe will ask the supervisors to sign a contract agreement with Graves Construction Company of Spencer for work on a bridge replacement. Rohe will present to the county board a contract for right of way involving a culvert project. He will also submit to the board’s approval several tile crossing permits.

 

County Roads Department To Close 220th Street For Bridge Repair

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department has announced it plans to close 220th Street from Quest Avenue to Highway 140. The road will be closed beginning today, and continuing until July 7th to replace a small wooden
bridge with a culvert pipe.

 

 

City Council To Hold Meeting Today

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars City Council will hold a hearing today regarding the rezoning of the K-N-S Third Addition. That hearing will be at the start of today’s city council meeting beginning at 12:00 noon. In action items scheduled for today’s city council meeting, the council is expected to award the contract
of the bid package #3 for the Le Mars Public Library. The council will also act on the assistance requests from Galles Enterprises and Vision Builders. The council will discuss parking for residents of second story dwellings. The city council has also scheduled to discuss the north extension of the recreation trail.

 

 

D.A.R.E. Conference Being Held In Le Mars

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department is hosting the state-wide D.A.R.E. conference. D.A.R.E stands for Drug Abuse and Resistance Education. Le Mars Police Officer Jay King serves as the local D.A.R.E. officer for the Le Mars schools and explains the purpose for the program.

 

 

 

 

King says nearly 50 law enforcement officers are being represented during the D.A.R.E. conference held in Le Mars. He says it is a good opportunity to share ideas, and to learn about trends happening at other locations.

Officer King says this year there has been a special focus for officers to recognize children with autism, and to learn how best to deal with an autistic child. King says officers are more likely today to encounter an autistic individual, than from any time in the past.

 

 

Information Released On Friday Morning Accident

(Le Mars) — Authorities have released the information regarding the accident that happened last Friday at the intersection of county roads K-22 and C-38.
The accident was reported at about 9:15 a.m. According to the traffic report compiled by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, 75-year old Darlene McPherson of Hawarden was traveling south on county road K-22 approaching the intersection
of K-22 and C-38. The driver of the second vehicle, 26-year old Chase Bollock of Melvin, says he was at the stop sign, heading west, and about to cross county road K-22 and was behind a semi truck that was turning north. Bollock says the
semi truck blocked his vision of southbound traffic, and he pulled into the intersection and was struck by the southbound McPherson vehicle. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s office reports there were at least two injuries associated with the accident. 10-year old Maeshall Holz and 71-year old Mary Frerichs were
transported by the Le Mars Ambulance Service to the hospital. Responding to the accident scene were the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, the Le Mars Ambulance Service, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.
