State Representative Chuck Holz Participates in Governor’s Celebrity Steer Show at Iowa State Fair

(Des Moines) — One of the highlights of the Iowa State Fair is the annual Governor’s Celebrity Steer Show which was held on Saturday.  State Representative Chuck Holz (R) was asked to participate in the 35th annual event.  Holz, a retired veterinarian, was asked by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  Although Holz did not place within the top five steers exhibited, he admits he had a good time.  Holz, along with the owner, Megan Osborn showed the reserve champion market steer from the Boone County Fair.  “Oliver” was a 1300+ pound market steer.  Winning the Governor’s Steer Show was Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds with a steer called “Smokin’ Willie.”  The steer was owned by Codiy Von Glan of Vail, Iowa.  The champion steer sold for $17,000 to the McDonald Restaurants of Greater Des Moines and Ames.  The People’s Choice Award steer was sold for $11,000.  Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey won the Showmanship honors.  The steer he exhibited “Hersey” and owned by Jaden Jorgensen sold for $14,000.  The steer exhibited by Holz sold for $3500.  The annual Governor’s Celebrity Steer show is hosted by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council.  Proceeds from the steer auction go to help support the charity Ronald McDonald Homes of Iowa.  More $3 million has been raised from the 35 years of the event
