HAM RADIO DEMONSTRATION TO BE HELD SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN LE MARS

(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Amateur Radio Emergency Services along with the Buena Vista County Amateur Radio Emergency Services are scheduled to hold a demonstration Saturday afternoon and Brian Nitzschke says it is to show people
the advantages to a community of having a HAM radio operation.

Nitzschke says HAM radio operators are growing in numbers around the globe.

The demonstrations will begin at 1:00 p.m. from the city parking lot along 1st Avenue southwest located between Fire Station number 1 and Hardware Hank.

Nitzschke says many HAM radio operators are able to transmit around the world.

The HAM radio operator says the Federal Communications Commission has made it easier in recent years to acquire a license to operate an amateur radio.

Nitzschke says he would like to invite area emergency service managers to Saturday’s demonstration.

MUCH ANTICIPATED TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IS MONDAY

(Le Mars) — Monday is the date of the much anticipated solar eclipse, and according to Joel Sander, an assistant professor of physics for the University of South Dakota, we should not expect drastic changes to occur.

A variety of unusual circumstances may occur on Monday’s Total Eclipse.

Eye protection is necessary when observing the total eclipse.

Sander believes the pin whole telescope is one of the safest and most effective ways to view the eclipse.
