FRIDAY RESULTS – August 25

(high school football)

SIOUX CENTER —  Cade Bleeker threw four first half touchdown passes, two to Brendan Zeutenhorst, to lead Sioux Center to a 27-9 season-opening victory over Le Mars Friday night.  Bleeker also tossed scoring passes to Tyus Arends and Branden Jahn.  The Warriors scored on their first two possessions of the game for an early 12-0 lead.  Ben Wadle’s 24-yard field in the second quarter drew Le Mars to within 12-3 with 7:25 to play in the first half.  But a pair of center snaps that sailed over quarterback Conner Ouradnik’s head quickly switched the momentum back to the Warriors in the final five minutes of the half as Sioux Center scored 15 points just before halftime.  One of the wayward center snaps was recovered by the Warriors at the Bulldog ten yard line and quickly converted to a touchdown.  The second snap ended up in the end zone where Ouradnik recovered it for a safety.  Sioux Center scored again with 1:13 to play in the first half following the free kick and a short field.  Gabe Eckstaine, who injured his passing arm early in the game, ran for a four yard touchdown with 1:43 to play in the game for the only scoring in the second half.  Le Mars hosts M-O-C/Floyd Valley next Friday to wrap up their non-district schedule.

LE MARS — It was one of the best halves of football in recent Gehlen Catholic history as the Jays rolled up 61 first-half points Friday night before settling on a 69-20 season-opening victory over MMCRU at Jim Lorenzen Field.  Cole Wiltgen threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.  Adam Ellensohn ran for three touchdowns and Eli Ellensohn ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns for the Jays.  Gehlen amassed 557 yards of offense, rushing for 343 yards and throwing for 214.  Evan Cluck returned a kickoff 87 yards for a first quarter touchdown for the Royals and Andrew Prescott threw a four-yard scoring pass to Hunter Tentinger in the second quarter.  Prescott ran 22 yards for a fourth quarter score for MMCRU.  Gehlen travels to Sibley-Ocheyedan next Friday night.  The game will be carried on KLEM.
