Iowa Highway Patrol Investigates Plymouth County Accident

(Cherokee) — The Iowa Highway Patrol has released information about a serious one-vehicle roll-over accident that happened Friday morning, at about 7:00 a.m. in the northwest corner of Plymouth County on County road K-22, just north of
the County road C-12 intersection. As a result of the accident, the driver, 40-year old Felipe Medina-Ibarra of Arkansas City, Kansas, was ejected from the vehicle. According to the traffic accident report, Medina-Ibarra was traveling northbound on county road K-22 when his vehicle left the roadway by
entering the east ditch. The vehicle traveled down an embankment until it vaulted a short distance over a culvert. The car then touched ground in a corn field and began to roll several times, before it vaulted again, this time over a field drive. The vehicle continued to roll at which point the driver was ejected from the vehicle. The car continued to roll before coming to rest on its top. Responding to the scene were the Ireton Ambulance and Ireton Fire Department. Medina-Ibarra was transported to the Hawarden Hospital by the Ireton Ambulance Service. Plymouth County Authorities Identifies Payloader Accident Victim

(Remsen) — Plymouth County authorities have released the name of the accident victim that was involved with the payloader tractor roll-over accident that happened Monday morning. The name of the accident victim is 63 year old Louis Pick of Remsen. The accident happened Monday morning at about 9:28 a.m. at
47746 180th Street, about three miles east of Remsen and a half mile west of county road L-22. Pick was transported to Floyd Valley Healthcare by the Remsen Ambulance, and subsequently, transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City via the Mercy Air Care helicopter. Plymouth County Sheriff’s deputies believed
the injuries were non-life threatening. The Remsen Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist the victim from the over-turned payloader tractor.  Apparently, the driver of the tractor got too close to the shoulder of the roadway, and with the recent weekend rains, the gravel road shoulder was soft, which gave way, causing the payloader tractor to roll into
the north ditch. The front-end loader bucket was empty at the time of the accident.

Supervisors Get Construction Update From IDOT On Highway 75

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors were given an update relating to the road construction project on Highway 75 during its weekly meeting held Tuesday morning.  Dakin Schultz, Transportation Planner for northwest Iowa with the Iowa Department of Transportation, informed the county
supervisors that next year during the 2018 construction year, work will begin on the 4.8 miles of highway between county road C-80 and Hinton.  Schultz says the estimated cost for the construction project will be at $9.7 million dollars.
Schultz says it will consist of tearing out the old highway and placing a new paved highway.

Schultz described the work to be performed at the intersection of County road C-70 and U-S Highway 75. Schultz’s colleague, I-D-O-T Engineer Shane Tymkowicz (Tim-co-witz) also addressed the rail crossing that is near the proposed construction zone.

Schultz reported to the county board of supervisors the construction work between county road C-38 and Merrill is scheduled to be done by next year.
Schultz says both lanes of travel will open within the next few weeks.  Schultz informed the supervisors the Iowa D-O-T will not do any construction work through the town of Hinton, but will do construction work on both the north and the south side of Hinton.  The Iowa D-O-T official told the Plymouth County
governing board that the state is projecting to reconstruct the stretch of Highway 75 between Hinton and Merrill in the year 2022.  Schultz says traffic surveys show at least 16,000 vehicles travel on Highway 75 each day between Sioux City and Le Mars.
