Merrill Accident

(Merrill) — Another semi truck collided with a car causing an accident with injuries. This time the accident happened at Merrill at about 4:05 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 75 and county road C-44, near the Perra’s Mexican Restaurant. The semi truck with a flatbed trailer was loaded with steel. According to the Merrill Police Department the semi trailer was heading northbound on Highway 75. A Volkswagon Beetle was heading westbound on C-44 and was attempting to make a left-hand turn to go southbound on Highway 75. The vehicles collided at the intersection. The Le Mars Ambulance transported the female driver of the Volkswagon Beetle to a Sioux City hospital.  The driver of the semi truck and trailer did not sustain any injuries.  Traffic on Highway 75 was detoured while emergency crews cleaned up the accident scene.  Assisting at the scene were the Merrill Fire Department, Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, Merrill Ambulance, Le Mars Ambulance, Merrill Police Department, Hinton Police Department, Iowa Motor Vehicles Enforcement, and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
