(Orange City) — This year’s pumpkin harvest looks to be a good one, according to a northwest Iowa pumpkin grower.

Dave and Helen Huitink have been growing pumpkins for the past 28 years on their farm located north of Orange City.  During the autumn, they operate an 8 acre pick-to-own pumpkin farm, known as Pumpkinland. Dave Huitink says he wishes for
some sunny weather.

Huitink says his pumpkin farm “Pumpkinland” got started after somebody stopping at their farm inquiring if they could purchase some pumpkins that were on display.

School children from various schools located within northwest Iowa, and as far away as Minnesota and South Dakota take the time to visit the farm as part of a field trip.  Huitink says around 1800 school children will visit the farm each year, with each student able to take home a small pumpkin.
Each year the Huitinks have featured a corn maze allowing people to explore the trails within the maze.  This year, the Huitinks have partnered with Culver’s restaurants to “Thank farmers.”

Pumpkinland also features an animal petting zoo, craft store, and home-made bakery goods. It is open Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. until dark.
Pumpkinland is located about three miles north of Orange City on county road K-64.
