Le Mars Police Remind People To Be Safe During Halloween

(Le Mars) — Halloween is a time for children dressed in costumes and going around house to house, trick and treating for candy.  But, as Le Mars Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte suggests, it is also a time to be thinking about safety.
Vande Vegte says the hours for Halloween trick or treating in Le Mars have never been officially established, but he recommends between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The Police Chief has some safety advice for those ghosts and goblins that will be participating in the annual ritual of asking for candy.

Vande Vegte says there are some precautions that trick or treaters should follow in order to be seen.

When driving in the neighborhoods on Halloween evening, Vande Vegte says be sure to slow down.

Vande Vegte says residential homes should illuminate the area so children know you are participating in the annual Halloween festivities, as well as, to make it safer for them to walk on the sidewalks.

Following the gathering of candy, Vande Vegte suggests parents inspect the collection to see if there are any irregularities with the candy.

The Le Mars Police Chief wants everyone to enjoy themselves, have fun, but use caution and be safe for this Halloween.
