Maurice Man Arrested For Domestic Assault

(Orange City) — A Maurice man has been arrested by Sioux County Sheriff’s deputies for charges relating to domestic assault. 49 year old Glenn Van Horssen was arrested on Wednesday at about 8:30 p.m. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence two miles north of Maurice. Upon further
investigation, deputies discovered that Van Horssen assaulted two victims at the residence. Van Horssen was charged with domestic assault and assault.

 

 

Sioux County Authorities Investigate Theft Of Two Traffic Lights

(Orange City) — Sioux County authorities are investigating the theft of two traffic lights from the Rock River Bridge. The theft is thought to have occurred sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday, December 21st. The Sioux County Sheriff’s office investigated the theft that occurred on 360th Street,
about nine miles southwest of Rock Valley. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

 

 

Authorities Release Name Of Dead Pilot From Plane Crash

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (AP) – Authorities have released the name of a pilot whose body was found in the wreckage of his small plane in south-central Iowa.
The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office identified him as 70-year-old Bruce Devick, who lived in Marshalltown.
Authorities say the single-engine aircraft crashed Saturday afternoon after striking a power line about 3 miles (5 kilometers) north of Oskaloosa. First responders found the wrecked plane upside down in a farm field.
Devick had been flying alone. It remains unclear why he was flying low enough to strike the line.
Federal authorities have joined the crash investigation.

 

 

Former Softball Coach Found Guilty Of Sexual Contact With 14 Year Old Girl

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – A former softball coach has been found guilty of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in Council Bluffs.
The Daily Nonpareil reports that John Osborn was convicted Friday of four counts of sexual abuse. Court records say his sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 1.
It was the 50-year-old Osborn’s second trial on the charges. He’d been convicted in spring 2015, but the judge ordered a new trial when new evidence surfaced before Osborn could be sentenced. The second trial was delayed by appeals.
Council Bluffs police say Osborn and the girl engaged in sex acts when the girl stayed at Osborn’s house for a sleepover with his daughter.

 

 

Larchwood, Iowa Man Dies After Hitting A Stalled Charter Bus on South Dakota Interstate

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – Authorities say a man killed when his van rear-ended a stalled charter bus on the interstate in Rapid City was a 31-year-old from Iowa.
The South Dakota State Patrol says Cade Stensland of Larchwood, Iowa was driving on Interstate 90 about 20 miles east of Rapid City when he hit the charter bus. The Daily Republic reports the bus had stalled in the middle of the
highway with no lights because it had lost power Thursday night.
No one was injured on the bus, which carried 56 passengers.
The South Dakota State Patrol is investigating the accident.
