Democratic Governor Candidate Visits Le Mars

Fred Hubbell, a Des Moines Businessman, is running as a Democratic candidate for governor.  Hubbell was in Le Mars Thursday evening visiting with local residents, answering their questions and sharing his views.

(Le Mars) — Democratic candidate for governor Fred Hubbell made a campaign stop in Le Mars last evening and met with nearly a dozen people to share his views for the state. Hubbell, a former chairman of Younker’s clothing store, says he
is a fiscally responsible person. Hubbell says Iowa needs to pay off our debt before any discussion takes place about tax cuts.

Hubbell says if the state was to implement his plan, he believes there would be enough money freed up in the existing budget that could be directed instead to additional educational programs, and other needed programs. Hubbell, a former
state economic director, says the state needs to proceed with caution when offering incentives to lure businesses to Iowa. Hubbell is critical of the recent deal state officials struck with Apple Company to bring the computer company to Iowa.

Hubbell says economic development should be from the ground up, using Iowa’s resources. He offers environmental projects as his example.

Another area that Hubbell is passionate is with the mental health industry. He says Iowa needs to recognize the problem, and properly deal with the situation.

The Democratic governor candidate continues his northwest Iowa campaign tour today visiting Sheldon, Spencer, Spirit Lake and Estherville.
