Former Le Mars Community School Superintendent Passes Away

(Le Mars) — A former Le Mars Community School Superintendent has passed away. Roy “Red” Messerole died Thursday evening. He was 80 years of age. Messerole
was the school superintendent for 15 years beginning in 1985. During Messerole’s leadership, Le Mars Community added gymnasiums to both Clark and Franklin elementary schools. Another construction project under Messerole’s leadership was the renovation of what was the High School courtyard to become the new school library and 9th
grade hallway. Calvin Kooiker was a school board director during Messerole’s time as school superintendent. Kooiker says Messerole was a good superintendent that was well liked by the school board, the teachers, and the entire community.

Kooiker says Messerole was the person responsible for starting the Le Mars Community School District Foundation.

Kooiker says Messerole was a “strong man”, not in terms of physical strength, but that he had high morals and ethics.

Funeral services for Messerole are scheduled for Tuesday, January 16th at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars.
