(Le Mars) — Two Le Mars veterans from the Korean Conflict era are getting set to visit our nation’s capital as they participate on an “Honor Flight.”
Bob Kenaley and Bob Schroeder are both members of the Le Mars American Legion Wasmer Post #241. The two will leave from Sioux Falls on a chartered jet early Tuesday morning on what will be a one-day whirl-wind tour to Washington D.C. Neither of the veterans have ever before visited Washington, but they both say they are anxious and excited for the opportunity. Bob Kenaley talks about what he is looking forward to seeing during the Honor Flight.

Bob Schroeder agrees with his travel mate Bob Kenaley, on wanting to see the different historical sites. Schroeder says he excited about the journey.

While both are considered Korean War veterans, only Schroeder was stationed in Korea during the war.

Schroeder says he doesn’t have any desire to ever go back to Korea for a visit, saying he believes it would stir up too many bad memories. The Korean Conflict was coming to an end when Kenaley was deployed.  Although Kenaley is considered as a Korean veteran, he instead ended up in Europe.

Both Kenealy and Schroeder served in the Army. As for their visit to Washington D.C. in addition to viewing the monuments, memorials, and government buildings, both veterans will have their sons join them on the journey.  Another Le Mars veteran, Rod Scholten will also participate on the “Honor Flight” to our nation’s capital.
