On Your Own Time – Downtown Scavenger Hunt

9:00 a.m. 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, Le Mars YMCA Parking Lot, 241 12th Street S.E. Join a team of 3 to 4 players to participate in the 23rd annual YMCA 3-on-3 basketball tournament.  Entry fee is $20 per player.  Pre-registration required.  Age groups (male and female divisions in each group) are 8 and under, 10 and under, and 12 and under.

11:30 a.m. Le Mars Historic Preservation Architectural Tour. Tour begins at Le Mars Arts Center, 200 Central Avenue S.E.  In one hour learn about downtown Le Mars architecture.  The Le Mars Historic Preservation Commission will provide an educational tour about the architectural elements that are used in downtown Le Mars buildings.

1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Plymouth County Historical Museum   335 1st Avenue S.W.

1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Le Mars Arts Center 200 Central Avenue S.E.

2:00 p.m. Smile Contest and Ice Cream Social Good Samaritan Society 1140 Lincoln Street N.E.  Join Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars as they host a children’s Smile Contest and Ice Cream Social.  Ages 4-7 may register from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. with judging to begin at 2:30 p.m. Ice Cream Social to immediately follow for participants and spectators.  Prizes for all participants.

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m Kids Fun Fest Le Mars Public Library, 46 1st Street S.W. Kids Fun Fest sponsored by Blue Bunny and hosted at the Library, will include two great performances plus craft activities.  Duke Otherwise will entertain with his guitar, tap shoes and distinct singing voice.  Magician Jonathan May includes magic and comedy.

6:00 p.m. Extreme Stunt Show Le Mars YMCA Parking Lot, 241 12th St. S.E.  The Le Mars Area Youth Network has partnered with Action Sports Outreach for an all new extreme stunt event for the entire family.  Enjoy burgers, hot dogs, nachos, snow cones and refreshments as you take in high flying skaters, bikes, and motorcycles.  Concessions open at 5:00 p.m. Lawn chairs recommended.

6:30 p.m. Adult Co-ed Slow Pitch Softball Tournament Rejoice Community Church Softball Field. 1320 3rd Avenue S.E. Rejoice Community Church will host a six-team softball tournament on Friday and Saturday.  Cost is $150 per team with double elimination.  Saturday start time will be at 9:00 a.m.  For more details or to sign up contact Jamie Balcom at ph. 8:30 a.m. Grill ‘n’ Chill Rib Rally, Cleveland Park, 600 Block of 2nd Street S.E.  Want to show off your wood/charcoal B-B-Q skills?  Join us at Cleveland Park.  Preparations begin at 8:30 a.m. Judging will be at 4:00 p.m. $25 entry fee with 100% payback.  Entry forms are available at www.lemarsiowa.com .  Direct questions to g.dreckman@hotmail.com . Take in the sights, smells, and sounds of the varied ways of preparing smoked meats.  Lally’s Eastside is the on-site vendor. Sweet treats compliments of Blue Bunny.

9:00 a.m. Ice Cream Days Parade – 8th Street Blvd. – Central Avenue North – 3rd Street N.E.  Bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy one of the best parades in Northwest Iowa, featuring the White Horse Patrol, performance by Estrellas De Jalisco, Gehlen Catholic Competition Marching Band, Abu-Bekr Rat Patrol, entries from various businesses and much more.  The parade will line up on Stadium Drive near the Le Mars Community High School, and move north on 3rd Avenue S.W. going east on 8th Street Blvd S.W. then north on Central Avenue and proceed east on 3rd Street S.E. finishing at the Plymouth County Courthouse.  Entry form available at www.lemarsiowa.com.

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Art in The Park – Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue S.E. See your friends at Foster Park, plus artists, crafters and professional vendors too!  Food, fun, and entertainment for all ages.  Vendors will offer everything from professional art to crafts, purses to gift items.  Entry forms available at www.lemarsiowa.com.

10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Scoops of Fun, Foster Park Gazebo, 600 Central Avenue S.E.  Kids are welcome to be creative and take home a keepsake art project from Ice Cream Days fun by working with The Education Station

10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Kids’ Color Fun, Foster Park Gazebo, 600 Central Avenue S.E.  Kids join us for a FREE fun and creative project.  Add your personal flair by coloring in the custom designed 2018 Ice Cream Days t-shirt.  Yours to take home and enjoy.

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Disc Golf Tournament, West Floyd Park West End of 3rd St. S.W. next to West Floyd Park.  Everyone is welcome to attend the 6th Annual Ice Cream Days Disc Golf Tournament. Participate or come as a spectator.  Four divisions: Youth, Women, Amateur, and Advanced.  Cash payouts and prizes given to each division, pin prizes at every hole.  Door prizes and raffle items also offered.  Tee off starts at 10:00 a.m.  Disc available for sale on-site.  Free ice cream treats.  Tournament hosted by the Le Mars Disc Golf Club.

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Le Mars Arts Center 200 Central Avenue S.E. Raku Firing Demonstration by potter Paul Adamson. Raku is defined as ceramics removed from a kiln at a high heat and combined with combustibles to create a cause and effect with the glazed ceramic piece.  This demonstration takes place outside, on the north side of the building.  You may reserve your pot to glaze and have Raku fired while you watch.  Contact the Arts Center for more information or to reserve a pot. 11:00 a.m. Kiwanis Incredible Kow Splash – Le Mars Municipal Park, Willow Creek.  Enjoy this fun and entertaining event sponsored by the Le Mars Kiwanis Club.  Rubber cows race to the finish line to earn great prizes for the adoptive owners.  Proceeds earned support our community.  More information about adopting a cow and this event found at www.kiwanis.lemars.net.

12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m. Log Cabin Days, Plymouth County Historical Museum 335 1st Avenue S.W.  Honoring the Museum’s two log cabins.  Pioneer fun, food and music on the grounds.  “Pie on the Porch” at 3:00 p.m.

1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Airplane, Helicopter and Drone Exhibitions featuring the Fly Boys of Iowa.  North of Airport on Holton Drive.  Entertainment for the whole family!  Watch large scale airplanes, helicopters and drones perform incredible acrobatic stunts.  Current AMA license holders may participate.  No admission fee.  Bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the aerial entertainment.  Sweet treats compliments of Blue Bunny.

1:30 p.m. Luxemborg Ancestry in Plymouth County, Plymouth County Historical Museum, 335 1st Avenue S.W. Study Hall.  The Northwest Iowa Genealogical Society invites you to hear former Le Mars resident, Jim Wiltgen, share his extensive research on Luxemborg families that settled in Northwest Iowa.  Free and open to the public.
