Le Mars Police Department To Start Up “Citizens Academy”

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department wants to start up a Citizen Academy. Classes would begin on August 21st and continue through September 13th. Le Mars Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte explains the program.

Interested people need to be at least 21 years of age or older, and either live in. or operate a business within the city limits of Le Mars, or have some credible affiliation with Le Mars. Vande Vegte anticipates several people to apply for the citizen academy.

Vande Vegte says those who complete the Police Citizens Academy will be expected to assist officers on some special events.

Vande Vegte says there is no physical endurance testing or registration fees associated with the Citizen Academy. However, background checks will be conducted.

Applications must be submitted to the Le Mars Police Department no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 7th, the same day as “National Night Out” activities.
