(Le Mars) — The city of Le Mars is seeing flooding from both the Willow Creek, as well as from the Floyd River. Flood waters have penetrated the Willow Creek Golf Course, the Municipal Park, the Le Mars Recreational Trail, the Little League ballparks, and other parts of the north and west sides of town. The Le Mars Municipal Airport is closed due to the flooding as the runways are under water. City officials have been building a berm at the airport to protect the terminal and the hangers. Several areas and
roads are closed due to the rising flood waters. Fire Chief Dave Schipper says Le Mars has set a record for the flood waters.

Schipper believes the rivers may have reached their peak.

Schipper says city employees are busy working today to prevent any additional problems associated with the flooding.

Even though it appears Le Mars has set a new record in terms of the depth of the flood waters, Schipper says property damage may be kept to a minimum based on the foresight of city leaders actions from years ago.

Residents on PGA Drive have found themselves as a secluded island due to the flooding. City councilman Rex Knapp is one of those residents located at that part of town, and talks about the options available to the residents.

Many of Plymouth County gravel roads are closed and are  underwater.  Russ Hobson is the Maintenance Supervisor for the Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department.
