Music Boosters To Hold Soup and Pie Supper

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Community Music Department, along with the Music Boosters will be serving soups and pie this evening, prior to the start of the Le Mars Community versus Spencer High School football game. Tiffany Brennan serves as the chair for the annual event. Tonight, Brennan says,
spectators to the game will have the opportunity to view the combined mass marching band consisting of both the Le Mars Community Middle School band, as well as the Le Mars Community High School Band. She says ticket prices to
the soup supper are $6, and free for those three and under. Serving of the soup and pie will be held at the High School Cafeteria. Brennan says attendees will have the option of three different types of soup.

Brennan says the annual soup and pie supper is the the main fundraiser for the Music Boosters. She says the music boosters haven’t yet selected a specific project for this year, but tells of the ways the music boosters have assisted the Le Mars Community Music Department in past years.

The soup will be served by various music students, as well as parents, and other volunteers of the Music Boosters. Brennan has this advice for people still deciding how to spend their Friday evening.

Museum To Hold Vintage Quilt Walking Tour On Sunday

(Le Mars) — This weekend will be the last opportunity for people to view the Vintage Quilt exhibit now on display at the Plymouth County Historical Museum. Margaret Henrich is the chairperson for the quilt show, and says the exhibit features more than 100 quilts. Henrich says the oldest quilt on
display dates all the way back to 1825. Each of the quilts have a
historical connection to Plymouth County, including one quilt that was sent from California.

Henrich says the quilt exhibit features quilts of all different sizes,
colors, and patterns.

Henrich explains the crazy quilts do not have any set pattern. Rather, they consist of a mixture of fabric pieces that have been randomly sewn together, but with detailed stitching.

On Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m. the museum will offer a “walking tour” of the various quilts. Henrich says the purpose of the tour is to offer visitors additional historical information about the quilts, and to discuss the uniqueness of each quilt.

The quilt show chairperson says people wanting to visit the Vintage Quilt Show will want to make certain they see a special quilt, created in the early 1900’s, featuring little baby faces.

The Vintage Quilt show exhibit is on display in the “Study Hall” on the 4th floor of the Plymouth County Historical Museum.

Investigators haven’t said which of the knives may have been used in the slaying.
If convicted of murder, Richards faces life in prison.

Judge Says Burlington City Officials and Police Broke Open Records Law By Concealing Information Relating To Shooting Death Of Woman

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) – A judge says the city of Burlington and the Iowa Criminal Investigation Division broke Iowa law by refusing to turn over all records gathered in investigating a police officer’s accidental shooting of a Burlington woman.

The Hawk Eye reports that Administrative Law Judge Karen Doland said in the decision she filed Monday that the public’s right to transparency should have outweighed officials’ desire for secrecy.

The newspaper and the family of Autumn Steele have sought the records since she was fatally shot on Jan. 6, 2015, by an officer responding to a fight between Steele and her husband.

A federal judge already has ordered the city to release body camera video from the officer, his medical records and a portion of the state investigative files.
