Fire Destroys Hog Barn Near Akron

(Akron) — Fire broke out Sunday afternoon at a hog barn facility located near Diamond Avenue and 220th Street, near Akron. Firefighters from Akron were called at about 1:25 p.m. to battle the blaze. Shortly thereafter, Akron called for support from the Le Mars Fire Department and the Hawarden Fire Department. The structure is listed as a total loss, but fortunately there were no hogs inside the facility at the time of the fire. The barn is part of a facility by Seaboard Foods.
Akron Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Small says it isn’t certain as to what may have started the fire, and the fire remains under investigation.
