Here is the Gehlen Catholic band this morning before mass practice at the Alamo Dome

Gehlen Catholic’s band director, Paul Niebuhr, reconnected with Chris Reimann, now in Ankeny. Reimann had Niebuhr as a band Director at Sutherland High School. Niebuhr took Reimann and the Sutherland band to the 1989 Liberty Bowl. Reimann graduated from South O’Brien in 1991. Niebuhr taught band at Sutherland from fall of 1987 to spring of 1990 grades 4-12. Sutherland merged with Paullina and Primghar at the start of the 1990-1991 school year.
The Niebuhrs presented Dennis Morrice an ISU shirt before tonight’s game.
Katie Pratt, a 2017 LCS graduate and LCS band member, is currently an ISU student and color guard member. She and the Niebuhrs connected on the field before halftime of tonight’s game.

Le Mars Gehlen High School Band took first place in Class 1A in a band competition in San Antonio on Thursday.  The 37 member band also received four other awards.

Tonight (Friday) the band will perform at halftime during the Alamo Bowl.  The Iowa State Cyclones are playing in the bowl game against Washington State.

Yesterday’s competition and afternoon mass band practice was held at the Catholic High School in San Antonio
Last night’s awards dinner was held at Tejas Rodeo, where the students had dinner, danced, and enjoyed S’mores.
The students will unload the bus tonight at 5:30 pm to have dinner at the Dome and watch the game starting at 8 pm CST. They will perform at halftime of tonight’s game.

The students enjoyed lunch today at Rio Rio.  This afternoon, they will tour the Riverwalk and the Alamo.
