Friends of Le Mars Library Seeking Additional Members

(Le Mars) — The Friends of the Le Mars Public Library held its annual meeting earlier this week. Among some people, there is some confusion as to the difference of responsibilities between the Le Mars Public Library and the Friends of the Library. Friends of the Library president Shawn Brooks explains how the entities are separate, but dependent upon each other.

Brooks further explains the separate responsibilities between the public library, which is subsidized through tax revenue, and the Friends of the Library which is a non-profit organization.

Shirley Taylor, the Director of Services for the Le Mars Public Library says the Friends of the Library consists of more than 60 members, but there is a core group of people that step up to help when ever needed.

Taylor says one of the major fund raising activities that the Friends of the Library sponsors is a book sale.

The Friends of the Library president tells of some the activities, including reading programs, that are being planned for this year involving the organization.

Anyone having an interest in joining the Friends of the Library organization can simply sign-up at the Le Mars Public Library. For more information, you can speak to Library Services Director, Shirley Taylor.
