Remsen and Oyens Fire Departments Respond To Hog Barn Fire

(Oyens) — The Oyens and Remsen Fire Departments responded this morning to a call of a hog confinement building on fire. The alarm was about 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning at a hog facility located at 40222 220th Street, or nearly a half mile east of Pioneer Avenue on 220th Street, approximately six miles south of Oyens. The fire seemed to be limited to the ceiling of the
building. Firefighters removed portions of the roof to get better access to the fire. There were no flames and very little smoke seen coming from the facility. The building was full of market hogs, but it did not appear any of hogs had were injured. Firefighters were on the scene for about an 45 minutes.  Damage to the building was minimal.
