Think It Is Too Early For Snow? Think Again.

(Le Mars) — As the weekend weather forecast is calling for a possibility for snow on Friday, many people are believing it is too early for any snow, especially when this week we have enjoyed temperatures in the 70’s.  However, it was a year ago when we were saying similar statements.  People may have forgotten that it was October 14th when Le Mars had its first snowfall last year.  Although, Le Mars received only a dusting, and the snow had melted within a few hours, never-the-less we received snow in October.  Thinking back to at least 25 years ago, many may remember the heavy snowfall of at least a foot of snow that blanketed Le Mars and all of the Midwest on the famous Halloween Blizzard.  National Weather Services meteorologist Todd Hietkamp of Sioux Falls says snow is common for October.

Heitkamp says this weekend’s predicted snow, should only be a dusting for Le Mars.

Heitkamp suggests we may want to consider getting our winter coats from the closet as Friday’s high temperature will only be in the 30’s.

The National Weather Services meteorologist explains what we can expect with our weather for the coming days.
