Senior Citizens Given Tools To Prevent From Falling

(Le Mars) — Volunteers from Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars were performing the role of “Good Samaritans” Saturday morning, as they distributed items to better assist senior citizens. 50 different senior citizen homes within the Le Mars area were given a “reach tool” along with a nightlight, and a packet containing important medical information that is placed in a small folder attached to a magnet that can then be placed on a home appliance such as a refrigerator. It is all part of the “Founder’s Day” or now referred to as “Falls Prevention Project Day” with the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars. Teresa Petty, Marketing and Development Director with Good Samaritan demonstrates to Ruth Kenaley of Le Mars how she can utilize the “reach tool” to help retrieve items that are out of reach, thus eliminating the possibility of a fall.

The “File of Life” contains important medical information regarding the senior citizen’s medical condition. A decal is also placed on the front door notifying emergency personnel to have easy information and access in order to better detect the possible health ailment with the senior citizen.
