Iowa and Nebraska authorities helped rescue two hunters around 11am Sunday morning whose boat was sinking.

Monona County dispatch says a father and his teenage son were duck hunting on an oxbow lake within the Tieville Bend Wildlife Management Area and were motoring back to the boat ramp when their 14 foot johnboat began taking on water.

An Iowa DNR Conservation Officer and an Iowa State Patrol Trooper accompanied Decatur Fire and Rescue and pulled the hunters from their stranded vessel and transported them to shore.

Both individuals refused medical treatment.  Their names were not released by authorities.

Authorities in Iowa say the body of a missing Nebraska kayaker who was hunting has been recovered.

33-year-old Cody Bengford of Bellevue, Nebraska had been reported missing Friday evening.

Divers with the Midwest Regional Dive Team recovered Bengford’s body Saturday morning.

Investigators believe Bengford left the boat ramp at the Nobles Lake Wildlife Management Area on Friday afternoon to head out for a bow hunt in the Desoto National Wildlife Refuge.

Bengford was reported missing that evening after he didn’t return.

His overturned kayak was recovered along the north shoreline of the lake.

Bengford’s body has been transported to the Iowa Medical Examiner in Ankeny for an autopsy.

Part of the case against the suspect charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 20-year-old University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts appears to be in jeopardy because of a botched Miranda warning.

Prosecutors have agreed to exclude some statements that 25-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera reportedly made to police.

Court documents filed Friday by prosecutors acknowledge that the initial Miranda warning given to Rivera around 11:30 p.m. on August 20th, 2018, failed to inform him that anything he said could be used against him in court.

His Miranda rights were accurately read to him a second time at 5:50 a.m. August 21st, as police were in a cornfield where Tibbetts’ body was found.

Rivera is accused of killing Tibbetts, who disappeared while out for a run near Brooklyn, Iowa. Investigators found her body a month later.

Officials say she was stabbed to death.

Rivera is scheduled to stand trial in Sioux City in Woodbury County District Court from a change of venue granted for the case on February 4th.

Another delay has been granted in the trial of a Dakota City, Nebraska woman accused of stabbing another woman to death in Sioux City.

The trial of 21-year-old Melissa Camargo-Flores was scheduled to begin Tuesday in Woodbury County District Court, but court documents show the trial will now begin on March 3rd of 2020 at 9:30am.

Camargo-Flores has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the Sioux City slaying of 24-year-old Kenia Alvarez-Flores on April 8th of 2018.

Court documents say Camargo-Flores admitted stabbing Alvarez-Flores.

Camargo-Flores told investigators she’d been involved in a relationship with the victim’s boyfriend.

Authorities say the two women were not related.
