Show Opens This Weekend at the Postal Playhouse

(Le Mars) – The stage is set and the players are anxiously awaiting an audience for the production of “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder,” a musical by Robert L. Freedman at the Le Mars Community Theatre’s Postal Playhouse.
The title itself raises eyebrows, to be sure, and it accurately explains the tongue in cheek farce that awaits audiences.

The basic premise for the show is that the main character, Monty played by Dr. David Janssen of Sioux Center, finds out he was disinherited from his royal family heritage and he wants to earn back his right to be an Earl. Cast member Brande Pals, of Orange City, explains what that has to do with love and murder.

Oh, how the other half lives!  Pals plays Phoebe, one of the women Monty is in love with.

The musical style of this show is operetic farce, which means there’s a lot of fast dialogue being sung to music that highlights the large vocal range of it’s performers.  But don’t forget, the farce part of that means it’s joking style doesn’t take itself too seriously.  I’ve heard that the audience can expect to laugh from beginning to end.

Brande Pals adds that if you really want to pick up all the the details of the show, you want to make sure you come ready to listen closely.

“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder” opens Friday at the Le Mars Community Theatre’s Postal Playhouse under the direction of Miss Breeanna Pierce.  The cast is rounded out by a few local faces and a few new actors coming from Sioux City and the Orange City area to join on the fun!
