WEDNESDAY RESULTS – June 24

LE MARS — Gehlen coach Tony Gunter got an out call changed to a safe call Wednesday night to extend the fourth inning and the Lady Jays followed with a pair of RBI hits as No. 8 (1A) Gehlen Catholic stayed unbeaten with a 6-3 victory over Unity Christian at the Riverview Complex.  Tiffany Woerdehoff hit a two-out grounder to third base and was thrown out on a close play at first base.  Gunter contended that the first baseman for Unity never touched the bag and the home plate umpire agreed after an appeal, forcing Unity’s players to grab their gloves and retake the field.  Addison Weber then struck a tie-breaking RBI-double over the center fielders head and Sydney Livermore followed with a RBI single for a 4-2 advantage.  The Lady Jays added two more runs and inning later.  Emily Kellen made her first start of the season and threw a five-hitter with five walks, two hit-batters and eleven strike outs.  After giving up two runs in the first on a hit and four walks, she retired eleven straight.  Tiffany Woerdehoff and Aylissa Kolbeck led a 13-hit attack with three hits each.  Gehlen improves to 4-0 for the season and 3-0 in the War Eagle Conference.
