Local Teams Qualify For State Tournaments

(Le Mars) — Le Mars Lady Bulldogs qualified for the 4A State softball tournament in Fort Dodge Tuesday night, upsetting ninth- rated Sergeant Bluff-Luton 4-1 to earn the school’s second State softball tournament trip.  Le Mars last visited Ft. Dodge in 2014.  The Lady Bulldogs play top-rated Carlisle at 3 pm next Monday.

Remsen St. Mary’s

(Remsen) — The undefeated Remsen St. Mary’s Hawks baseball team will be returning to the State tournament for the fifth straight year after defeating the Newell-Fonda Mustangs 2-0 in Le Mars Tuesday night in the Sub-State 1 title game.  St. Mary’s, now 19-0, will be making their 13th State tournament appearance and trying to add to their four title trophies.

Akron-Westfield Softball

No. 7 Akron-Westfield punched their State tournament ticket Monday night with a 9-2 victory over Gehlen Catholic.  The Westerners will be making their 15th State appearance next Tuesday night when they take on No. 3 Clarksville at 7:30.  A-W has won six State titles under Todd Colt.

Kingsley-Pierson 

No. 8 Kingsley-Pierson is headed back to State for the first time in 18 years after beating Logan-Magnolia Tuesday night, 9-5, to win the Sub-State 8 championship.  The Panthers are 16-1.
