First Responders Called To Accident Scene

(Le Mars)— Shortly before noon on Tuesday, the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, Le Mars Police Department and the Le Mars Ambulance Services were called to the scene of an accident that happened at the intersection of Business Highway 75
and 1st Street Southwest, near the Casey’s General convenience store. The accident involved two cars that had collided. Five people were involved with the accident, although the injuries appeared to be minor in nature.
Emergency crews were on the scene for approximately 20 minutes. Business Highway 75 was down to one alternating lane of traffic, while first responders were tending to the accident victims.  Within a half-hour, officials had restored the normal traffic flow through the area.

 

 

 

Governor Reynolds Scolds Schools That Want To Defy In-class Order

(Des Moines) — Governor Kim Reynolds resumed her COVID-19 news conferences today, and she fired a shot across the bow of those schools that have said they don’t feel compelled to follow Reynolds’ order to have students in class, but rather to conduct all courses on-line.

Reynolds then cited the specific legislation that would require schools to conduct in-person classes.

The Urbandale School Board has voted to defy the state and continue with virtual learning at one of its elementary schools. Rolling Green Elementary has a year-round schedule and got a waiver to began classes on-line. The Iowa Department of Education denied the request for Rolling Green to continue on-
line learning and says they must go to in-person classes at the end of this week. Reynolds acknowledged Rolling Green Elementary School is in an unique position.

 

 

 

 

Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child Killed in Ankeny Shooting

(Ankeny, IA) — Police in Ankeny are investigating a shooting late Monday night left a pregnant woman dead. Officers called to the WoodSpring Suites hotel found a 17-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victm was taken to the hospital where she and her unborn child died.
No arrests have been made and police do not believe there is no danger to the public. Investigators plan to release more information about the shooting today (Tuesday).

 

 

 

Sioux City Council Approves Purchase of 120 Police Body Cameras

(Sioux City, IA) — Police officers in Sioux City could be wearing body cameras by late fall. The Sioux City City Council unanimously approved the purchase of 120 body cameras for just over a quarter-million dollars at Monday’s meeting. The cost includes software, hardware and training. Police Chief Rex Mueller says their policy will require officers to have the cameras
on during all contacts with the public. They can turn them off while talking with a victim about a sensitive matter. Councilman Dan Moore said the body cams are going to serve a good purpose for the police officers and the citizens.

 

 

 

Iowa State Football to Play 10 Games Under Big 12 Plan

(Ames, IA) — The Iowa State football team will play ten games this season under the new Big 12 Conference schedule. The Cyclones will face nine Big 12 opponents and one non-conference team. The games are being pushed back to a mid to late September start . I-S-U was scheduled to play four non-conference
opponents before the Big Ten cancelled the annual Cy-Hawk game. The Cyclones three other non-conference opponents are South Dakota, U-N-L-V and Ball State. No word yet on which game will still be played.

 

 

 

Field Of Dreams MLB Game Postponed Until 2021

(Dyersville, IA) — Fans will have to wait one more year see to the first-ever Major League Baseball game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville. The August 13th matchup between the Chicago White and St. Louis Cardinals has been postponed during the coronavirus pandemic. More than a dozen members of
the Cardinals organization tested positive for COVID-19 and remain quarantined in a Milwaukee hotel. Organizers of the game blamed a “logistical problem” for the postponement. The proposed M-L-B game at the movie site in northeast Iowa was originally scheduled to be the White Sox and Yankees before the start of the season was delayed.
