L-A Dodgers 3, Tampa Bay 1  (Dodgers win series, 4-2)

  ARLINGTON, Texas —  The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions for the first time in 32 years after winning Game 6, 3-1 Tuesday night over the Tampa Bay Rays.  It was the seventh championship in franchise history and their first since 1988.  L-A erased a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth on a wild pitch and a fielders choice grounder.  Mookie Betts homered in the eighth to secure the victory.

CLASS 1A REGIONAL FINALS

  PAULLINA —  Third-ranked Gehlen Catholic punched their State volleyball tournament ticket for the 13th time in the school’s history and for the 11th time in the last 12 years Wednesday night with a three games-to-one victory over MMCRU in the Regional finals.  The Lady Jays will play No. 11 New London (22-7) at 8 pm next Tuesday night at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Falcons Matt Ryan threw for 281 yards and ran for a touchdown to lead Atlanta to a 25-17 victory over Carolina in Thursday night N-F-L football.

STATE MEET AT FORT DODGE (Kennedy Park)

4A boys – Sioux City North won the 4A title led by Jaysen Bowers first place finish in a time of 15:31.2.

4A Girls – Johnston won the team title and Keelee Leitzen of Dubuque Hempstead took first in 18:08.0

3A girls – Spencer finished 15th.  Ballard won the team title led by Shewaye Johnson’s first place finish in 17:55.3.

3A boys – Dallas Center-Grimes won the team title and Nate Mueller of ADM, Adel took first in 15:28.7.  Le Mars finished 10th and M-O-C/Floyd Valley was 13th in the team standings.  Bulldog results:  43rd-Jason Sudtelgte (17:19.4), 47th-Kaden Wingert (17:20.6), 60th-Ethan Hulinsky (17:26.4), 79th-Jackson Sudtelgte (17:42.9),  85th-Luke Feuerhelm (17:47.1), 102nd-Juan Sanchez (17:58.5) and 112th-Blake Dirksen (18:11.6).

2A Girls – Mid-Prairie won the team title with Sibley-Ocheyedan finishing 8th and Unity Christian 10th.  Freshman Danielle Hostetler of Mid-Prairie won the individual championship in a time of 19:08.9.  12th-Kyrstin Agnitch of Cherokee (20:03.2) ..  23rd-Erica Kuntz of Woodbury Central/Kingsley-Pierson (21:00.0)

2A Boys – Danville/New London won the team title with Western Christian finishing 4th, Unity Christian 11th and George-Little Rock 13th.  Caleb Shumaker of Tipton was the individual champion in 16:13.2.  6th-Tage Hulstein of Western Christian (17:00.3) and Devin Henry of West Sioux (17:22.2).

1A Girls – Hudson won the team title and Haley Meyer of Kee took first individually in a time of 19:11.3.

1A Boys – Madrid won the team title and Siouxland Christian finished 15th.  Brady Griebel of Bellevue was first in a time of 15:52.2.
