Gehlen Catholic at Remsen-Union - POSTPONED TO JUNE 28th

(LE MARS) -- Jordan Heidebrink went three-for-three at the plate with two RBI's and she threw a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to guide Le Mars past Spencer 4-0 in Lakes Conference softball action at the Bulldog Complex Monday night.  Heidebrink had RBI singles in the first and third innings to stake the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead.  Le Mars added two more runs in the fifth inning on a ground out and a wild pitch.    The Lady Bulldogs improve to 10-and-7 for the season and 3-and-2 in the Lakes Conference.

(LE MARS) -- Le Mars had to rally from a 9-2 deficit to remain unbeaten in Lakes Conference baseball play with a 10-9 victory over Spencer Monday night at the Bulldog Complex.  Five errors in the first four innings led to eight unearned runs and a seven-run dificit.  Le Mars scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to begin their comeback on a RBI single by Eric Havey and a two-run single by Jeremy Bohlke.  A five-run fifth inning completed the come-from-behind victory.  A run scored on a ground out then a Spencer error allowed two more runs to cross the plate.  Winning pitcher Judd Herzberg helped his own cause by capping the fifth inning with a two-run single that gave Le Mars their first lead of the night.  Herzberg threw shutout ball over the final three innings to get the win.  He scattered six hits, walked five and struck out five.  Only one run was earned.  Le Mars is now 5-and-0 in the league race and 6-and-3 for the season.

(LE MARS) -- Amber Timmins threw a one-hit shutout with eight strike outs and led an eleven-hit attack with three hits as Gehlen Catholic beat Unity Christian 10-0 in five innings Wednesday at the Riverview Complex.  Shannon Smith, Steph Rohe, and Brittaney Loutsch had two hits each.  Smith and Lisa Gunter had two RBI's apiece.  Gehlen improves to 11-and-7 for the season and 5-and-2 in the War Eagle Confernce softball race.


(CHEROKEE) -- Le Mars unleashed an 18-hit attack that featured four doubles and three home runs in a 22-0, five-inning win over Cherokee Wednesday night in Lakes Conference softball action at Cherokee.  Erin Kommes, Molly Renken and Sydney Rohde homered for the Lady Bulldogs.  Renken and Rohde hit their home runs during a 12-run fifth inning that also featured two-run doubles by Erica Westhoff and Mary Kate Eckstaine.  Rohde's pinch hit grandslam capped the scoring.  Jordan Heidebrink allowed just one hit and two walks while recording six strike outs.  The victory improves the Le Mars season record to 11-and-7 and their conference mark to 4-and-2.

(LE MARS) -- Unity Christian got a two-out, two-run single from their number nine hitter in the second inning and the Knights made it hold up as they beat Gehlen 2-1 in War Eagle Conference baseball action at the Riverview Complex Wednesday night.  Devin Groenhagen drove in Gehlen's only run with a sixth inning single but a second runner was thrown out at the plate.  Mitch Christoffel took the loss despite pitching a solid game.  He surrendered eight hits and struck out six.  Groenhagen had two of Gehlen's five hits.  The Jays fall to 4-and-7 for the year and 3-and-5 in the W-E-C.


(CHEROKEE) -- Kendall Candor and Judd Herzberg had key two-run hits in the final two innings at Cherokee Wednesday night to help Le Mars secure a 12-5 Lakes Conference baseball win over the Braves.  Candor's single in the sixth extended a 7-5 lead to 9-5 and Herzberg's double in the seventh gave the Bulldogs an 11-5 lead.  Hunter Rowe then singled home Herzberg with the final run of the game.  Jeremy Bohlke and Mike Ahlers also had two RBI's for Le Mars.  Bohlke led a 14-hit attack with four hits.  Zach Reuter improved to 3-and-0 with a complete-game, nine-hit pitching performance.  He struck out six.  Le Mars remains unbeaten in the Lakes Conference at 6-and-0 and improves to 7-and-3 for the season with their fifth straight victory.

(LE MARS) -- Gehlen ran their winning streak to four in a row with a 13-3, six inning softball victory over South O'Brien Thursday night at the Riverview Complex.  Amber Timmins tossed a three-hitter for the Lady Jays with three walks and five strike outs.  Timmins drove in three runs on two hits at the plate.  One of her hits was a double.  Steph Rohe also had two hits for Gehlen.  The Lady Jays improve to 12-and-7 for the season and 6-and-2 in the War Eagle Confernce.



Sioux City East 15 Le Mars 5, six innings

(SIOUX CITY) -- High-scoring Sioux City East brought a halt to the Bulldogs' five-game winning streak Thursday night, beating Le Mars 15-5 in six innings in non-conference baseball action at Sioux City.  East combined ten hits along with seven walks and four errors to score in double digits yet again.  The Black Raiders lead the state in scoring, averaging ten runs a game.  Austin Homan paced the Bulldogs attack with three hits and one RBI.  Jacob Lamoreaux had two hits and a RBI.  Le Mars falls to 7-and-4 for the season.

(SPIRIT LAKE) -- Jordan Heidebrink tossed a four-hitter and belted a solo home run to lead Le Mars to an 8-3 Lakes Conference softball win at Spirit Lake Friday night.  The game was a make-up from a June 9th postpoenment.  Le Mars improves to 12-and-7 for the season and 5-and-2 in the conference race.

(LE MARS) -- Freshman Michael Callahan snapped a 1-all tie with a sixth inning home run and the Wolverines added an insurance run in the seventh on Chas Biery's single as South O'Brien clipped Gehlen Catholic 3-1 in War Eagle Conference baseball play Friday night at the Riverview Complex.  Zach Roberts won a pitcher's duel with Gehlen's Michael Whitehead.  Roberts threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.  He allowed only four base runners.  Whitehead scattered seven hits, walked five and struck out seven.  Devin Groenhagen tied the game at 1-1in the fourth with a RBI ground out.  Gehlen falls to 4-and-8 for the season and 3-and-6 in the War Eagle Conference.


(ELK POINT, S.D.) -- Bishop Heelan handed Le Mars a 13-5 setback at the C-N-O-S Classic in Elk Point, South Dakota Friday night.  The game was a preview to the tournament opener next month when the two teams meet in the 3A District semifinals at Le Mars.  The Bulldogs fall to 7-and-5 for the season.  No other details are available from the game.

(AKRON) -- Le Mars split their two games at the Akron-Westfield Classic Saturday.  Thirteenth-ranted Sergeant Bluff-Luton beat Le Mars 7-3 in the first game of the day as Betsy THomas threw a five-hitter.  Thomas had the Lady Bulldogs shut out for six innings before Le Mars broke throught for three runs in the seventh inning.  Allie Wegner had three hits and three RBI's for SB-L.  In game two, Le Mars' Molly Renken threw a one-hit shut out and struck out 14 batters to pitch Le Mars to a 5-0 win over West Lyon.  Renken and teammate Jordan Heidebrink were named to the all-tournament team.  Le Mars is 13-and-8 for the season.

(LE MARS) -- Woodbury Central won the championship of the J-Club baseball tournament Saturday, beating Gehlen 8-3 in the title game.  The Wildcats erased a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the second inning and were never headed.  A three-run fifth inning broke the game open for the Cats.  Blake Wiltgen took the loss.  Earlier in day, Gehlen unleashed an eleven-hit attack to beat Kingsley-Pierson 12-1 in five innings.  Blake Wiltgen had three hits and two RBI's while Michael Whitehead, Derek Bretey, and Mitchell Flack had two hits each for the Jays.  Flack drove in a pair of runs.  Devin Groenhagen threw a three-hitter to get the win on the mound.  Gehlen stands at 5-and-9 for the season.
