SAN DIEGO — The Bears got the better of the Chargers in last night's NFL game in San Diego, 22-19. Chicago took the lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jay Cutler to Zach Miller with 3:19 left to secure the win. Cutler finished 27 of 40 for 345 yards, one interception and one lost fumble, while Philip Rivers threw for 280 yards and a touchdown in San Diego's fifth consecutive loss.

STATE TOURNAMENT AT THE U-S CELLULAR CENTER IN CEDAR RAPIDS

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Top-rated Central Lyon had to fight to the finish to fend off an upset bid by No. 8 Gehlen Catholic Wednesday night, winning in a five-set thriller in the 1A quarterfinals at the State volleyball tournament to advance to Thursday's semifinals.  It appeared Gehlen was going to win another miraculous comeback victory on the tournament trail as the Lady Jays rallied from a 14-8 deficit in Game 4 to win 25-22 to force a fifth game.  In Game 5 Gehlen held a 10-8 lead before the Lions rallied to win 15-12, sending the Lady Jays to the tournament sidelines with a 29-and-11 record.  The final scores for the match were 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12.  Gehlen's statistical leaders:  KILLS: Becca Konz 18, Katie Peters 16, Krayton Schnepf 14 and Kayla Mayer 8.  BLOCKS: Katie Peters 3 and Becca Konz 2. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Duke Williams returned a fumbled kickoff 19 yards for a touchdown and Karlos Williams grabbed a 26-yard TD pass while the Buffalo Bills wer building a 22-3 lead in a 22-17 win over the New York Jets. It was Bills coach Rex Ryan's first game at the Meadowlands since being fired last winter after six years as head coach of the Jets. Both teams are 5-4, but the Bills own the tiebreaker for an AFC wild-card berth after handing the Jets their third loss in four games.

IOWA CITY — LeShun Daniels rushed for a career-high 195 yards and three touchdowns and Number 8 Iowa held off Minnesota 40-35 on Saturday night to start 10-0 for the first time in school history.  C.J. Beathard threw for 213 yards and ran for two touchdowns for the Hawkeyes (10-0, 6-0 Big Ten, No. 5 CFP).  Iowa can now clinch the Big Ten West and a spot in the league title game with a win over Purdue next week.

AMES — Backup quarterback J.W. Walsh threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Carr with 3:06 left Saturday, giving Number 5 Oklahoma State a 35-31 victory over Iowa State and keeping the unbeaten Cowboys in playoff contention.  Oklahoma State trailed 24-7 and 31-21 before rallying for a victory that was short on style points but still critical.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Aaron Bailey ran for four touchdowns and Northern Iowa shut out Missouri State 41-0 Saturday.  Bailey finished with 161 yards on 19 carries for the Panthers (6-4, 4-3 Missouri Valley Conference). He also completed 4 of 12 passes for 61 yards. Tyvis Smith carried 16 times for 143 yards and a score. The Panthers amassed 512 yards while holding Missouri State to just 139 yards and six first downs.
