Kansas City 7, San Francisco 2  (best-of-series tied, 1-1)

KANSAS CITY - The World Series is tied at a game apiece after the Kansas City Royals erupted for five runs in the sixth inning of a 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Billy Butler had a pair of RBI singles, including a hit that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth. Salvador Perez lined a two-run double that inning and scored on Omar Infante's (ihn-FAHN'-tayz) two-run homer two pitches later.

PITTSBURGH - Ben Roethlisberger was 23 of 33 for 265 yards, two TDs and no interceptions as the Pittsburgh Steelers rallied to beat Houston 30-23 and improve to 4-3. Roethlisberger threw his two TD's while the Steelers were taking advantage of two Texans turnovers to score 21 points over the final 87 seconds of the first half. Receiver Antonio Brown threw for a touchdown during the scoring flurry and had nine catches for 90 yards.

San Francisco 7, Kansas City 1  (San Francisco leads best-of-seven series, 1-0)

KANSAS CITY - The Giants have taken Game 1 of the World Series as Madison Bumgarner went seven innings and Hunter Pence hit a two-run homer in San Francisco's 7-1 rout of the Royals in Kansas City. Bumgarner had a two-hit shutout and a 7-0 lead until Salvador Perez homered with two out in the seventh. Pablo Sandoval drove in the Giants' first and last runs with a double and a single.

KANSAS CITY - Royals ace James Shields had a rough outing in Game 1 of the World Series, allowing five runs and seven hits in three-plus innings. His performance was in stark contrast to his previous World Series start, when he tossed shutout ball over 5 2/3 innings for Tampa Bay to beat the Phillies in Game 2 of the 2008 Fall Classic. Shields is 3-5 with a 5.74 ERA over 53 1/3 innings over 10 career postseason starts.
