Gehlen Participates in "Fall Service Day"
(LeMars)-- LeMars Gehlen high school students were not in class yesterday, but that doesn't mean they're playing hooky. Instead, students were around town raking leaves, washing windows, trimming hedges and other such seasonal outdoor chores. It was all part of the "Fall Service Day." No doubt that Gehlen high school has enjoyed some success this year with their football and volleyball teams qualifying for state playoffs, and several students being selected to the all-state chorus, but Gehlen Catholic President, Father Kevin Richter says that we are not called upon to be successful, but rather faithful.
Richter says the Fall Service Day is an opportunity for the students and staff to use their gifts and talents for the common good, and to build together a strong sense of community. Senior Rachelle Lipp has assisted others for four years and says she does it to help out those who can't, or are unable to rake leaves. Lipp says the eldery are very apprecitative of the assistance offered by the students, many times giving out home-made baked cookies to the students. Lipp's reaction: "Its awesome."
