Ginrich Schedules Visit for LeMars
(LeMars) -- In the closing days before the January 3rd caucuses, LeMars and northwest Iowa is attracting several presidential candidates as a last effort to gather support. Former Speaker of the House and now republican presidential candidate Newt Ginrich is scheduled to make an appearance in LeMars. Ginrich will be in LeMars Wednesday evening at the Pizza Ranch restaurant beginning at 7 p.m. It's part of the Newt's Jobs and Growth Bus Tour. Ginrich is scheduled to be in LeMars for an hour. Texas Congressman Ron Paul will be in LeMars on Friday afternoon. Paul will appear at the LeMars Convention Center at 1:00 p.m. for a political rally. And Texas Governor Rick Perry will be in Sioux City on Monday at the Stoney Creek Inn at 12:30 p.m.
(LeMars) -- Plymouth County has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit that was filed last week by the estate of Richard Martin. Martin was involved in a fatal accident in August of 2010 when his vehicle was struck by a Chicago, Central and Pacific rail train. Chicago, Central and Pacific and its parent company, Canadian National-Illinois Central is the other defendant named in the suit. At the time of the accident, Martin was driving a truck owned by Walker Excavating and heading north bound on Otter Avenue near Oyens. The suit contends the railroad intersection crossing on Otter Avenue is extra hazardous, and therefore both the railroad company and Plymouth County are liable for the negligence. The Plaintiffs have requested a jury trial.
(LeMars) -- During the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting this morning, the supervisors approved four of the five subdivisions that were requested. Most are for agricultural purposes including a grain bin site and a hog finishing unit. One parcel of land would change the classification from agricultural to rural residential. The subdivisions that were approved are located in section 2 of Elkhorn township, section 26 opf Washington township, section 34 of Grant township, and Section 29 of Henry township. A request made by Corey DeRocher was tabled. The supervisors had asked DeRocher to acquire new survey maps before granting approval. The supervisors passed two tile crossing permits located in Preston township and America township. They also approved a resolution with weight limits on the new bridges that were constructed.
(Kingsley) -- Kingsley Fire Department was called this morning to a house fire at 212 South Main in Kingsley. The fire department was at the scene for nearly an hour. Fire Chief Scott Bohle says when fire fighters arrived at the scene there was smoke coming from a room. Upon further investigation it was determined an article of clothing had fallen on a lamp creating the smoke. There were no injuries and no other damage had occured.
