Arts Chat

It’s Sittin’ Pretty time at the Arts Center. Area artists and friends of the arts have painted very unique pieces out of very ordinary, throw away furniture. We have both chairs and tables this year.

Descriptions of the pieces will not pay them justice, so please stop by the Arts Center, 200 Central Ave SE, to have a look for yourself.

Office and Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. You can call us at 546-7476 or email lemarsarts@frontiernet.net for more information. If you want to peak at chair pictures, log on to lemarsarts.com.

Other events scheduled alongside this exhibit will be a weekend of floral displays by more friends of the Arts Center. These bouquets will be on exhibit Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. This weekend was explained to me as the best exhibit ever because it combines natural beauty with creative art.

We are planning on taking Sittin’ Pretty chairs with us to the fair. But don’t look for the Lyceum this year. That little house is taking on a different persona and the Arts Council will be Superintendent for the Open Class Art Exhibit. We are lucky to have enough space to bring our own exhibit as well as to care for all of the open class art work that comes to the fair to be judged and displayed. We look forward to seeing you at the fair. The Arts Center downtown will be closed that week.

To end up the bidding on the chairs, we will have the final bidding frenzy at the Arts Center on Saturday, August 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. At 4:00 p.m. bids translate into ownership and the Arts Center collects the money from this fabulous fund raiser.

So far this summer, around 90 children have enjoyed playing with us at the Arts Center and attending camps and classes. There is still drama camp scheduled the first week in August, but it is so popular, it has been filled for over a month. We will have the new fall class schedules ready to distribute at the fair. But, if you would rather teach than be part of a class, send us your class ideas and we’ll take it from there. (Arts Chat by Kathy Moore, Le Mars Art Center)
