Sittin Pretty Exhibit

(LE MARS) In its third year, the Le Mars Arts Center Sittin’ Pretty fundraiser has many chairs and even a couple tables for people to bid on. From tigers to flowers, Le Mars scenes to peacocks, each unique funiture piece has been decorated by a local artist.

Le Mars resident Anne Lubben owns her own jewelry business, Above the Ankle Designs, and has been creating her own pieces professionally for quite some time. She decorated her second chair for this years fundraiser. Instead of painting this year, she says her artistic inspiration came from magazines.

Lubben added that combining two unwanted things to make something new and fresh was a lot of fun.

The final product has a very colorful funky look…and it’s still inviting enough to sit on!

The Sittin’ Pretty exhibit runs through Saturday, July 16. Gallery hours to see and bid on the furniture are Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

There is also a Meet the Artists reception on Thursday, July 14. Final bidding will take place on Saturday, July 16 during gallery hours, with chairs being awarded at 4:00 p.m.

Contributing artist Anne Lubben says events like these are what keep the arts in the forefront of our community interactions.
