(LeMars) — The LeMars Police department is asking for the public’s help in locating a
missing woman.
Lisa Moore-Fox, also known as, Susan Anderson, age 42 walked away from
the Pride Group facility of LeMars on Monday. Moore-Fox is five feet – six inches tall,
and weighs about 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen
wearing a white t-shirt and gray capri style pants. She is known to go barefoot, write
words or markings on her skin, and has been known to enter unlocked homes or buildings.

Akron Accident Injures Two
(Akron) — We now know more about the accident that took place late Wednesday afternoon
near Akron. Both the Akron fire and rescue, along with the Akron ambulance, responded
to a two-vehicle accident that occured at the intersection of Highway 3 and county road
K-18. Apparently, a car driven by 19 year old, Theodore McGill of Akron, failed to make
a stop at the intersection and collided with a vehicle driven by 44 year-old Jarrod Otta
of Sioux Falls. Both drivers were transported to the Mercy Medical Center.
LeMars Receives Silver Shovel Award
(Le Mars)– Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) and its member electric and telephone
systems honored Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation with the Silver Shovel Award
during the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Invitational event.
The Silver Shovel Award recognition was established to help commemorate the 25th
Anniversary of Iowa Area Development Group and its economic development mission. IADG
is the business and community development leader for Iowa’s rural electric cooperatives,
member municipal electric systems and the independent telephone companies across the
state. Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation was nominated for the award by North
West Rural Electric Cooperative.
The Silver Shovel Award honors outstanding leadership, innovation and achievement in
business and community development and collaboration with IADG and its utility partners.
In presenting the award Mr. Bruce Hansen, IADG vice president marketing highlighted
numerous accomplishments of the organization including regional and statewide leadership
by Executive Director, Neal Adler in economic development matters as well as other
strategic investments, marketing initiatives, and accomplishments for business
development in the Le Mars region.
The Silver Shovel Award also brought with it a $1,000 contribution from the Iowa Area
Development Group Community Foundation. The financial award will allow Le Mars Business
Initiative Corporation to advance economic development through contributions to local
501c3 organizations. The IADG Community Foundation was established to facilitate
community based philanthropy throughout rural Iowa, promote entrepreneurship and advance
economic development.

Marcus Fair Celebrates its 75th Year
(Marcus) — Today is the start of the Marcus Community Fair. This marks the 75th
anniversary for the community fair. Kristie Mason serves as the president for the
Marcus Community Fair Board. She says one of the highlights to this year’s fair is a
western horse show.

The Westerners will perform at 2 pm and again at 7:30 pm on Saturday. The Marcus Fair
features many old time traditional activities and Mason says its important to maintain
those traditions. The Marcus Fair also has many activities for area children.

This evening will feature the Little Miss Marcus Fair pageant, Babies on Parade, the
induction of the Hall of Fame, and the alumni softball game.
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (AP) – State environmental officials say
bighead carp have been found in East Okoboji Lake in northern Iowa
and they believe flooding on the Missouri and Little Sioux rivers
may have allowed the fish to pass over area dams and eventually
into the lake.
The Iowa DNR says the fish were caught Tuesday. They are part of
a group of fish known as Asian carp, which includes silver carp,
grass carp and black carp. Officials say in a news release issued
Wednesday that bighead carp feed on plankton and may compete with
native fish for food.
Bighead carp were found in the Little Sioux River below the Linn
Grove Dam in 1996 and officials say the fish caught this week were
the first bighead carp found above the dam.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – New census data shows more Iowa children
are living with their grandparents and more people who aren’t
related are living together. Experts say it’s largely because of
tough economic times.
The U.S. Census Bureau released the data late Wednesday night.
It shows increases in the number of households with six or more
people and in the number of people living with grandparents, adult
children or siblings.
Iowa State University sociologist Liesl Eathington says the
numbers suggest the increase in nontraditional living arrangements
are driven by the economy as people cope with difficult economic
times. She says although the increases in the categories are big,
they account for only a small percentage of Iowa households.
Directors of Iowa food banks say more people move in with
relatives to make ends meet.
