(LeMars) — Each year, the Iowa State Fair honors eleven different people from across the state as the “Iowan for the Day.” This year, one of the eleven, is none other than LeMars native Julie Beitelspacher. This coming Sunday, August 14th, will be Julie’s “day” at the fair. She says the honor came to her as a complete surprise.

Beitelspacher says she has been a frequent visitor to the state fair, but never before realized there was such a recognition program. The title involves more than just a formal declaration and free admission to the fair. It also has its share of benefits and perks.

The selection committee likes to honor those people who are active, and volunteer their time to better their community. Beitelspacher devotes several hours as a volunteer to the local school district, 4-H programs, and the Plymouth County fair queen contest.
Beitelspacher says she is humbled by the honor, and hopes she represents LeMars and Plymouth County well.
