Floyd Valley Hospital Gets Good Marks On Audit
(Le Mars) — Floyd Valley Hospital has been given a “fresh bill of health” by the accounting firm Denman and Company of Des Moines. Denman and Company recently completed its audit of Floyd Valley’s Financial Statement. Hospital administrator Mike Donlin says the audit shows that although Floyd Valley did make a profit from last fiscal year, its expenses were also on the increase.

The Floyd Valley Hospital Board of Trustees took the action on Tuesday to hire a consulting firm to look at the feasibility of raising money for the proposed north addition.

Donlin says the assessment study will begin next Wednesday with the hopes that the conclusions will be ready in February of 2013.
Police Update the Information On Bike – Car Accident
(Le Mars) — Le Mars Police have released the details of that bicycle and car accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon at about 5:00 p.m. The accident happened near the Country Store convenience store located on Plymouth Street S.W. Nine year old Uriah Groetken was riding his bike and entered the lane of traffic from an alleyway, when he was struck by a car driven by 75 year old Naomi Kappler of Remsen. Groetken was transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital for observation since he had hit his head during the collision, but has since been released. Kappler was traveling at about 10 -15 mph when the accident occurred. The car received only minor damage. Responding to the accident were the Le Mars Police Department, the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, and the Le Mars Ambulance.
City Sells Mock Library Building
(Le Mars) — What was at one time the Charles Mock library as part of the Westmar College, may soon be a new restaurant. The Le Mars City Council approved the sale of the building for $5000 to John and Sharon Sailer of Le Mars. City administrator, Scott Langel says the city received two offers for the building.

City Officials Hope Tree Disposal Site To Open Again Next Week
(Le Mars) — Many people are wondering whether the city’s tree, leaf and grass disposal site will open again this autumn after Friday’s fire forced the closure of the disposal site. City Administrator Scott Langel says city officials hope to have the area cleaned and opened again after October 24th. His says fire fighters and public works officials have been working together to clean up the site.

DCI Investigating Shooting By Deputy
KEOSAUQUA, Iowa (AP) – The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting death of an armed man by a Van Buren County sheriff’s deputy in southeast Iowa.
The agency says the deputy shot and killed the man on Iowa Highway 2 near Cantril on Tuesday. Deputies were investigating reports of a man wearing a military uniform and armed with a rifle
walking along the highway and making obscene gestures at passing motorists.
Officials say when deputies arrived, the man was ordered to drop the rifle. A deputy shot the man when he pointed the rifle at the officers.
The sheriff’s office says Wednesday that no other information, including the man’s name, has been released. A telephone call to the DCI was not returned.
ACLU Asking Iowa Officials About Driver’s Licenses For Immigrants
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The American Civil Liberties Union is asking Iowa officials whether the state will grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants granted “deferred action” status by the federal government.
The ACLU says it sent a letter to Iowa Transportation Director Paul Trombino, asking him what the state will do.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has said each state can determine whether to issue licenses or extend other benefits to young immigrants who qualify for the deferred status. The
immigrants were brought to the country illegally when they were children.
Some states say they will grant driving privileges to the eligible immigrants. Others states, including Nebraska, have vowed to deny them.
Iowa Transportation Department spokeswoman Dena Gray-Fisher says the department hasn’t yet had time to review the letter or respond.
